서천군, ‘내 나무 갖고 심고 가꾸기’ 행사 개최

충남 서천군이 제80회 식목일을 맞아 탄소중립 실현과 산림 자원 보존을 위한 기념 나무심기 행사를 열었다. 지난 2일 판교면 상좌리 일원에서 열린 이번 행사에는 김기웅 군수를 비롯해 지역 기관·단체 관계자 및 주민 등 300여 명이 참여했다.

이날 행사에서는 약 2.3ha의 면적에 탄소 흡수 능력이 뛰어나고 생태적 가치가 높은 상수리나무 6900본이 식재됐다. 

상수리나무는 참나무류의 대표적인 수종으로, 가뭄과 병충해에 강하고 내구성이 뛰어나 산림 생태계를 유지하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 또한 도토리를 맺어 야생동물의 먹이원이 되는 것은 물론, 도토리묵의 원료로도 활용돼 지역경제 활성화에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

군은 판교면을 중심으로 상수리나무 집단 조림을 적극 추진하고 있다. 2020년부터 시초, 문산, 판교, 마산 등지에 총 11ha 면적에 35만 5400본의 상수리나무를 심었으며, 올해는 37ha에 11만 1000본을 추가로 식재할 계획이다. 이를 통해 도토리묵 원재료의 안정적인 공급 기반을 마련하고, 생산 원가 절감을 통한 지역 농가의 소득 증대도 도모할 방침이다.
