예산군, 내포제2진입도로에 ‘명품가로숲’ 조성 완료

충남 예산군이 내포신도시와 연결되는 주요 진입로인 내포제2진입도로(군도 18호)의 경관을 대폭 개선하기 위해 추진한 ‘명품가로숲 조성사업’을 최근 완료했다.

군에 따르면 이번 사업은 삽교읍 삽교리에서 이리 구간까지 약 3.4km에 걸쳐 진행됐으며, 기존 가로수의 생육 불량과 경관 저해 문제를 해소하고자 추진됐다. 해당 도로는 2019년 가로수 식재 후 2022년부터 군이 관리해오고 있었지만, 주요 관문 역할을 하는 노선임에도 가로수 상태가 전반적으로 미흡해 개선 필요성이 꾸준히 제기돼 왔다.

이에 예산군은 도시숲 조성 공모사업을 통해 예산을 확보한 뒤, 관련 전문가로 구성된 심의 과정을 거쳐 사업 방향을 구체화하고 문제점을 보완해왔다.

이번 조성사업의 핵심은 도로 이용자들의 시야를 방해하지 않으면서도 미관을 개선할 수 있는 수종을 선택한 데 있다. 도로변에는 수직으로 곧게 자라며 폭이 좁은 ‘직립 느티나무’를 새로 심어 대형 차량의 운행에 지장을 주지 않도록 했다. 중앙분리대에는 사계절 푸른 잎을 유지하는 반송을 식재해 통일감 있는 녹지 경관을 구현하고 유지관리 효율도 높였다.

직립 느티나무는 기존 느티나무와 유사한 생육 특성을 가지면서도 옆으로 가지가 퍼지지 않아 좁은 도로변에도 적합한 수종으로 알려져 있다. 반송 역시 내염성과 생명력이 강해 도심 도로의 척박한 환경에서도 안정적으로 활착할 수 있는 장점이 있다.

이와 함께 일부 구간 중앙분리대에 기존에 식재되어 있던 배롱나무 주변에는 상반기 중 잔디를 추가로 보식해 경관의 완성도를 높이고, 장기적인 관리 계획도 병행할 방침이다.
