거문고 배울 때 늘 김무길 선생님의 산조를 들으며 그 경지에 이르고자 꿈을 가진 적이 있었다. 거문고 소리는 귀에서도 울리지만, 가슴에서 더 큰 울림으로 마음에 평온을 가져다준다. 지금도 잠들기 전 마음을 다스리려 거문고 소리를 들으며 매일의 허튼 삶을 반성하고는 한다.
우리가 무심코 잊고 있던 전통의 음률이 영혼 안에 잠재하고 있다가 문득 공허한 시간에 다가와 지친 삶에 걸음을 늦추고 위로와 평온을 가져다준다.
성공을 지향하는 현대인의 삶의 표본은 세속의 야망에 이끌려 치열하게 일하고 죽기 살기로 나아가면서 삶의 모호성 속에 인간의 본질, 정체성을 부와 명예, 사회적 지위에 동일시하며 매달리고 끌려 다니는 것은 아닐까?
새소리 들리는 숲길을 걸으며 꽃잎 날리는 하늘을 한 번만이라도 바라본 적이 있다면 타인의 삶을 짓밟는 일로 세상을 아프게 하지 않을 것이다.
거문고 소리는 거스르거나 넘어서지 않는다. 울림은 두텁고 음률이 가파르지 않다. 성음의 파장은 길지만 오래 머물지 않기에 그 아쉬움의 여백을 고요한 마음으로 채워야 하니 깊고 맑은 성덕이 수양 되어야 청명할 것이다.
마주 앉아 술을 마시면
산꽃들도 반가워 피네
한 잔 주게, 한 잔 들게
또 한잔에 해지는 줄 모르고
나는 이제 취해 잠들려 하니
그대는 마음대로 갔다가

이백의 시에서 보여주는 단조로움과 일상의 여유를 고단한 인생 여정의 끝자락에서 더 나은 세상을 함께 바라보는 권선택 전 대전시장과 늦은 우정에서 연상하여 본다.
배우다 멈춰 벽에 걸린 거문고처럼 7년간 정치적 공백을 체념과 분노로 채우지 않고 기다림의 여유와 용서를 담아 여전히 사람들의 소리를 경청해 왔다고 한다.
보석 같이 빛나는 경험과 능력을 담고 있기에 거문고 술대가 현에 닿으면 터져 나올듯한 울림을 아직 간직하고 있다. 그에게 밝고 맑은 행보를 기대하는 것은 그 경륜을 아직 펼쳐 보이지 못한 큰 아쉬움 때문이었다.
이제 나아가고자 하는 길이 어느 길이던 활짝 펼쳐지기를 바란다. 늦은 길을 가는 그와 함께 어느 날 모든 것 다 내려놓고 거문고 산조를 들으며 술잔을 여유롭게 부딪는 기대를 하여본다.
