대한민국 K-컬처의 새로운 감동을 해외 무대에 전파해 온 모던국악예술단 <부지화>가 베트남 북부 최대 항구 도시이자 문화 예술의 중심지인 하이퐁(Hai Phong)에서 특별한 무대를 선보인다.
하이퐁시 외무국의 공식 초청으로 마련된 ‘2025 한·베 문화 교류 공연’은 오는 5월 16일부터 19일까지 3일간 하이퐁 오페라하우스 광장 특설무대에서 매일 오후 8시(현지 시각)에 펼쳐진다.
이번 공연은 K팝을 중심으로 세계적인 영향력을 확대해 온 K-컬처의 스펙트럼을 ‘전통’이라는 또 다른 핵심 축으로 확장하는 중요한 계기가 될 것으로 기대를 모은다. 특히 한국 전통음악을 현대적인 감각으로 재해석하는 ‘모던 국악’ 장르를 이끌어 온 <부지화>가 중심이 되어, 단순한 기예 선보임을 넘어 감성적 공감과 깊이 있는 철학적 메시지를 담은 수준 높은 공연으로 양국의 문화 교류에 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 전망이다.
K-컬처의 예술적 깊이 세계에 새기다
‘부드러운 가지에 피는 꽃처럼, 유연한 전통 속에서 피어나는 현대의 감성’이라는 뜻을 담고 있는 <부지화>는 모던 국악의 세계화를 지향하는 예술단이다. 전통과 현대, 정서와 리듬, 동양적 고유성과 서양적 보편성을 조화롭게 아우르는 감각적인 무대로 국내외 수많은 무대에서 관객과 평단의 호평을 받아왔으며, K-컬처의 예술적 깊이를 더하는 상징으로 자리매김했다.
이번 하이퐁 공연에는 황진경 단장을 비롯해, 모던 타악 연주자 표선아 팀장과 그녀의 14인 제자, 음악감독 김성심 등이 참여하여 완성도 높은 무대를 선보일 예정이다.

The Modern Gugak Art Troupe <Bujihwa>, which has been conveying the new emotion of Korea's K-Culture to overseas stages, will present a special performance in Haiphong, the largest port city in northern Vietnam and a center of culture and arts.
The '2025 Korea-Vietnam Cultural Exchange Performance', officially invited by the Haiphong City Department of Foreign Affairs, will be held for three days from May 16th to 19th at the special stage in Haiphong Opera House Square, starting at 8 PM (local time) each day.
This performance is highly anticipated as a significant opportunity to expand the spectrum of K-Culture, which has been globally influential centering on K-Pop, to another key axis of 'tradition'. In particular, with <Bujihwa>, which has been leading the 'modern Gugak' genre by reinterpreting traditional Korean music with a contemporary sensibility, at its core, it is expected to be a high-quality performance that goes beyond simply showcasing artistry and conveying culture, but also encompasses emotional resonance and profound philosophical messages, thereby injecting new vitality into the cultural exchange between the two countries.
Imprinting the Artistic Depth of K-Culture on the World
<Bujihwa>, meaning 'like a flower blooming on a soft branch, modern sensibility blossoming within flexible tradition', is an art troupe aiming for the globalization of modern Gugak. With its sensual performances harmonizing tradition and modernity, emotion and rhythm, Eastern uniqueness and Western universality, it has received favorable reviews from audiences and critics on numerous domestic and international stages, establishing itself as a symbol that deepens the artistic depth of K-Culture.
For the upcoming Haiphong performance, Director Hwang Jin-kyung will lead the troupe, along with modern percussionist and team leader Pyo Seon-ah and her 14 disciples, and music director Kim Seong-sim, promising a highly polished stage.
The performance will be composed mainly of <Bujihwa>'s representative repertoire, captivating the audience with a diverse program that showcases the artistry of reinterpreting the spirit of Korea, passed down through a long history, and the emotions of 'Heung' (joy) and 'Han' (sorrow) with a modern sensibility.
Creative Origin Dance 'Breath of the Gods' (Choreography: Hwang Jin-kyung): A narrative dance based on ancient East Asian mythology, visually expressing the theme of 'communion between humans and gods' using long flowing fabric and swords. The harmony of majestic percussion reminiscent of Jongmyo Jeryeak (Royal Ancestral Ritual Music) and delicate choreography impressively decorates the opening of the performance.
Modern Percussion Performance 'Scent of Pyo Seon-ah' (Direction/Performance: Team Leader Pyo Seon-ah): A work rhythmically expressing 'Han' (sorrow) and 'Heung' (joy), representative emotional structures of Koreans, through the innovative fusion of modern percussion instruments, traditional rhythms, and K-Pop music. Especially, diverse rhythmic structures unfold centering on variations of 'Arirang', delivering a deep emotional resonance to the audience.
Seoljanggu Solo 'Resonance of the Soul' (Performance: Music Director Kim Seong-sim): A Seoljanggu solo performance showcasing the essence of Korean traditional percussion, conveying the unique musical depth of <Bujihwa> through precise and delicate rhythms and explosive energy, deeply moving the audience's inner self.
Korea-Vietnam Emotional Fusion Stage: A special stage that exquisitely combines genres highly popular in both countries, such as Vietnamese pop songs, K-Trot, and K-Pop boy group music, aiming to evoke universal emotional empathy beyond language and culture.
Fusion of Dance and Video, Multimedia Performance: A dynamic digital performance unfolding with LED stage visuals is expected to break down the boundaries between art and cutting-edge technology, offering the audience an unprecedented new audio-visual experience.
A Korea-Vietnam Journey Through Sound and Movement
The performance troupe emphasized, "This Haiphong performance is not just a cultural exchange, but a moving journey where Korea and Vietnam walk together through the medium of art. It will be a symbolic moment where tradition and modernity, reason and emotion, Korea and Vietnam are connected through the beautiful medium of art."
Modern percussionist Pyo Seon-ah expressed her anticipation for the performance, saying, "Through the diverse spectrum of K-Culture beyond K-Pop, I want to share various emotions with the local Haiphong audience. I aim to show that deep empathy beyond language barriers is possible through the universal languages of sound and movement."
Director Hwang Jin-kyung added, "This stage is not just about introducing Korean culture, but embodies the meaning of 'Donghaeng' (accompanying), where both countries walk together through art. We hope that this performance will lay the foundation for sustainable cultural and artistic cooperation between Korea and Vietnam in the future."
Regarding the performance, Jang Bok-hyun, Chairman of the Haiphong Korean Residents Association, stated, "The performance by the <Bujihwa> art troupe is more than just a cultural event; it is a precious opportunity for both Korean residents and locals in Haiphong to enjoy Korean traditional culture together and feel great pride and identity as Koreans." He further added, "We hope that this cultural exchange will further deepen the friendship and understanding between the two countries, and the Korean Residents Association will continue to faithfully play its role as a bridge for cultural diplomacy."

A significant aspect of this performance is that it will be held during Haiphong's largest annual cultural festival and broadcast live for over an hour nationwide in Vietnam through 'Haiphong TV'.
