브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘은 10일 새벽 대선 후보를 교체하는 초유의 사태가 벌어졌다. 당 지도부는 전날 김문수 후보 측과 한덕수 후보 측 실무자 간 단일화 협상이 사실상 결렬되자, 오는 11일 대선 후보 등록 시한을 앞두고 후보 교체라는 초강수를 둔 것이다.
국민의힘은 이날 오전 4시40분경 비상대책위원회를 마친 뒤 김문수 당 대선 후보의 선출을 취소하고, 한덕수 무소속 대선 예비후보를 입당시켜 당의 대선 후보로 등록시키기로 의결했다.
지도부가 대선후보 취소 근거로 삼은 규정은 당헌 제74조의 2 조항이다. 이에 따르면 '상당한 사유가 있을 때는 대선후보 선출에 관한 사항을 비상대책위원회 의결로 정한다'고 규정하고 있다.
당 선거관리위위원회도 즉각 당헌 제74조의2 및 대통령 후보자 선출 규정 제29조에 따른 김 후보의 대선 후보 선출 취소를 공고했다.
동시에 대선 후보자 등록 신청 공고도 냈다. '당헌 제74조의2 및 대통령 후보자 선출 규정 제26조에 의거해, 새 대선 후보 선거 후보자 등록 신청을 받겠다'는 내용이다. 후보 등록 신청 기간은 이날 오전 3시부터 4시까지였다.

이에 따라 '한 후보를 우리 당 최종 후보로 지명하는 데 동의하는지'에 대한 찬반을 묻는 전 당원 투표가 이날 실시된다. 투표자 과반이 찬성할 경우 통과되고, 오는 11일 전국위원회에서 과반의 동의를 얻으면 후보 재선출 절차가 마무리된다.
한덕수 후보는 '국민의힘 당원 동지께 드리는 글'을 통해 "오늘(10일)부로 '국민의힘'에 입당한 한덕수 인사드린다"며 "제 목표는 단 하나, 여기서 기적이 끝나선 안 된다는 것, 대한민국은 계속해서 앞으로 나아가야 한다는 것, 이것밖에 없다. 그것이 국민의 뜻이고 당원 동지 여러분의 뜻"이라고 했다.
한편 국민의힘 지도부는 이날 오전 11시 서울 여의도 국회에서 후보 재선출 절차와 관련한 언론 백브리핑을 진행할 예정이다. 권영세 비상대책위원장도 입장을 발표할 계획이다.
