세종시를 대표하는 행정·의회·교육 기관 수장들이 ‘청주공항 민간전용활주로 건설’ 100만 서명운동에 힘을 보탰다.

최민호 세종시장, 임채성 시의회 의장, 최교진 교육감 등은 14일 ‘청주공항 민간전용활주로 건설, 서명운동에 함께합시다’라는 문구가 담긴 피켓을 들고 릴레이 캠페인에 참여했다. 

이들은 청주공항 기능 강화가 세종시와 중부권 전체의 발전에 실질적인 도움이 될 수 있다고 강조하며, 해당 사업의 조속한 추진을 촉구했다.

이날 참석자들은 청주공항의 민간전용활주로 신설이 행정수도의 실질적 완성을 위한 교통 인프라 확충의 핵심이라며 입을 모았다. 특히 수도권 집중 해소와 국가 균형발전을 위한 실질적 대안으로서, 중부권 광역교통망의 중요성을 부각했다.

세종시는 현재 청주공항에서 차량으로 약 40~50분 거리에 위치해 있으며, 새로운 활주로가 마련될 경우 중앙부처 공무원들의 출장 효율성 증대는 물론, 세종 시민의 항공 접근성과 충청권 전반의 광역 연결성이 크게 향상될 것으로 기대된다.
