Korea South-East Power CEO Kang Ki-yoon: “We will do our best to maintain stable power supply and core functions”
2025 Disaster Response Safety Korea Training… Power Plant ‘Power Accident’ Complex Disaster Response Training Held
Korea South-East Power held disaster response safety training on the 20th to safely protect power plant facilities from fires caused by large-scale forest fires, typhoons, and heavy rain.
Korea South-East Power announced that it conducted the 2025 Disaster Response Safety Korea Training at Yeongheung Power Plant Headquarters, with CEO Kang Ki-yoon personally directing the training. The training on this day was attended by approximately 200 people from 30 organizations including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Ongjin-gun, Incheon City, Songdo Fire Station in Incheon (including Yeongheung 119 Safety Center), police, military units (Unit 2506), Ongjin-gun Health Center, KEPCO KPS, Korea Power Technology, and other central government agencies, related organizations, and private companies, as well as Ongjin-gun Volunteer Center, Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Foundation, and Volunteer Fire Brigade, as well as the National Experience Group.
The training on this day examined the types of large-scale disasters that have occurred nationwide recently, such as typhoons and heavy rains in the coming summer.
In addition, the vulnerability of Yeongheung Power Plant Headquarters was analyzed, such as the possibility of marine pollution due to power plant fires and oil spills, and a virtual complex disaster situation of ‘storm damage (typhoon) → forest fire → fire and power accident → regional spread of combustion gas → marine oil pollution’ was set through consulting by the Central Evaluation Team of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and the training was conducted.
Namdong Power incorporated the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's training priorities this year (➀ conducting integrated training between the situation room and the disaster site, ➁ strengthening practical operation training of disaster management resources, and ➂ preventing safety accidents during training, etc.) into its training. Through this, it prepared for disaster situations that could occur at the power plant by linking the headquarters and the disaster site in real time, and performed tasks and roles in stages such as initial response-emergency response-recovery/recovery according to the action manual, such as rapid on-site dispatch of self-defense fire brigades including disaster management resources (self-fire trucks, ambulances, etc.).
Through this, it also checked the business continuity plan and checked the achievement of training goals such as restoration of core functions. In addition, it conducted training to operate the response system, such as mobilizing actual heavy equipment, assuming a sinkhole situation that has recently become an issue.
By actively utilizing the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Disaster and Safety Communication Network (PS-LTE) and preemptively introducing and utilizing smart radios dedicated to the Safety Communication Network (P-LTE), we also focused on checking the on-site operability of the emergency response system, such as rapid situation reporting and transmission, to secure the golden time in the event of a disaster.
Kang Ki-yoon, President of Korea South-East Power, said, “Through periodic joint training with related organizations, we will do our best to maintain the core functions of protecting the lives and properties of the people and providing stable power in the event of a disaster, and we will continue to actively introduce AI technology and new safety technologies to work sites to prevent disasters and safety accidents from various perspectives, and we will do our best to leap forward as a representative safety company in Korea.”
