브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 권성동 국민의힘 원내대표는 5일 "저부터 원내대표직을 내려놓겠다"며 사퇴를 선언했다. 또한 사퇴와 함께 이재명 정부와 더불어민주당을 향한 정치적 고언도 함께 남겼다.
권 원내대표는 이날 국회에서 열린 의원총회에서 "제가 원내대표직을 맡을 때 독이 든 성배를 드는 심정이라고 말씀드렸다. 저는 5선이고 이미 원내대표직도 한번 수행한 바가 있다. 하지만 그래도 당시 여당으로서, 국가적인 위기와 당의 혼란을 수습하기 위해 누군가는 나서야 했기에 다시 책임을 맡은 것"이라고 밝혔다.
그는 "거대 야당의 무리한 악법 강행처리를 막기 위한 재의 요구권 방어 100석을 지켜내기 위해서, 또 당이 광장에너지에 지나치게 휩쓸려 가지 않기 위해, 대선을 앞두고 당의 분열을 막고, 화합을 지켜내기 위해, 당내 일각의 지속적인 도발과 자극, 그리고 인격 모독까지 감내했다"면서 "그럼에도 그동안 부족한 저를 믿고 도움을 주신 의원님들께 진심으로 깊은 감사 말씀을 드린다"고 말했다.
그는 또한 대선 패배와 관련해선 "국민들께서 내려주신 매서운 회초리를 겸허하게 수용한다. 아울러 우리 김문수 후보에게 지지와 성원을 보내주신 모든 분들께 깊이 감사를 드리며, 기대에 부응하지 못해 정말 죄송하다는 말씀을 올린다"라며 "특히 22대 총선 참패 이후 심화되었던 당내 계파 갈등과 분열이 우리 지지자들의 원팀 단결을 저해했다는 지적을 뼈아프게 받아들인다. 이제 더 이상 분열은 안 된다. 하나가 되어야 한다. 이제는 정말 중도와 보수가 화합하고, 쇄신하기 위해 어떠한 노력을 기울여야 할지 각자의 위치에서 고민해야 할 때이다"고 강조했다.
권 원내대표는 아울러 새 정부와 민주당을 향해서도 "새 정부 출범 첫날이었던 어제 민주당은 법사위 소위에서 사법부 길들이기를 위한 대법관 증원법을 단독 처리하더니, 오늘은 첫 본회의에서 검사징계법개정안과 3대 특검법을 강행 처리하겠다고 한다"면서 "오늘만큼은 민주당에 진심으로 고언을 드린다. 민생과 거리가 먼 무더기 특검법이나 정치 보복적인 검사징계법을 여당 복귀 기념 제1호 법안으로 추진하는 것이 과연 새 정부의 출범에 또 새 정부의 성공에 도움이 될 것 같은가"라고 되물었다.
이어 그는 "우리도 여당을 해봤다. 돌이켜보건대 대통령 임기 첫날이 가장 힘이 넘치는 날"이라며 "가장 힘이 있을 때 가장 국민에게 혜택이 고루 돌아가는 의미 있는 민생 관련 정책과 법안을 펼쳐야 한다. 그래서 새 정부 1호 인사, 1호 법안, 1호 정치가 가진 의미는 너무나도 컸다"고 지적했다.
