이날 행사에는 강수현 양주시장을 비롯해 윤창철 시의회 의장, 정성호 국회의원, 국가유공자와 유가족, 관내 기관·단체장 등 400여 명이 참석해 순국선열과 호국영령의 숭고한 희생을 기리고, 애국정신을 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.
추념식은 국민의례에 이어, 오전 10시 전국적으로 울린 사이렌에 맞춰 1분간 묵념, 헌화 및 분향, 추모공연, 추념사, 현충일 노래 제창 순으로 엄숙하게 진행됐다.

강수현 시장은 추념사를 통해 “국가유공자와 유가족께 깊은 감사와 위로를 전한다”며 “그들의 희생과 헌신이 오늘의 자유롭고 번영한 대한민국을 있게 했다는 사실을 항상 기억하겠다”고 말했다.
또한 “나라사랑 정신으로 국가 발전에 앞장서 주셨듯이, 양주시 발전에도 중심 역할을 해주시길 바란다”고 덧붙였다.
