사단법인 대한웅변인협회(회장 정덕권)는 최근 보도자료에서 “사단법인 대한웅변인협회가 국가보훈부 서울지방보훈청과 공동으로 오는 8월 23일 오후 1시 독립기념관에서 광복80주년 기념 ‘제37회 독립선열정신선양 국민통합 통일실현 전국웅변스피치대회’를 개최한다”고 전했다.

사단법인 대한웅변인협회측은 “1949년 10월 20일 독립투사 이기남 선생께서 민족정기의 회복과 국민정신계도 목적으로 설립한 한국 최초의 웅변 단체로 76년의 역사와 함께 많은 지도자를 배출하였으며, 조국 광복을 위해 몸을 바친 독립선열들의 정신을 선양하고 선제보훈을 통해 새로운 국민통합의 계기를 만들고 국가를 위해 희생하고 헌신한 이들의 애국충정과 희생정신을 고취하고자 매년 대회를 개최하고 있다. 특히 이 대회는 전년 대회부터 웅변스피치 경연분야 국내최초로 국민참여 심사위원제를 운영하고 있다”면서 “참가자들은 원고내용으로 ▲독립선열들의 숭고한 희생정신을 이어받아 세계화 시대에 걸맞는 새정신 운동을 펼쳐나가자는 내용 ▲독립선열들의 숭고한 희생정신을 창조적 동력으로 승화시켜 통일조국의 미래를 앞당기자는 내용 ▲국민이 국가를 위해 희생 헌신할 수 있는 마음을 갖도록 하는 선제보훈을 통해 국민을 하나로 통합할 수 있는 내용으로 준비하면 된다”고 소개했다.
이 자료에 따르면, 참가대상은 대회목적에 찬동해 희망하는 전국 초·중·고·대학생 및 일반 해외동포 등이다. 웅변발표 시간은 초등부 4분, 중·고등부 5분, 대학·일반부 6분이다. 시상으로는 대통령상, 3부 요인상, 관계부처 장관상 등이 예정되어 있다. 후원은 교육부, 통일부, 행정안전부, 국가보훈부, 서울시, 서울시의회 등의 정부기관 및 지자체가 참여한다.
The Korean Orator Association to Hold the 37th National Oratory Speech Contest
“August 23 - ‘Promoting the Spirit of Independence Martyrs, National Integration, and Realizing Unification’ Oratory Contest at the Independence Hall of Korea

The Korean Oratory Association (Chairman Jeong Deok-kwon) recently announced in a press release that “The Korean Oratory Association, in cooperation with the Seoul Regional Office of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, will hold the ‘37th National Oratory Speech Contest to Promote the Spirit of Independence Martyrs, National Integration, and Realizing Unification’ at the Independence Hall of Korea at 1:00 PM on August 23 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of liberation.”
The Korean Orator Association, a non-profit organization, said, “It was established on October 20, 1949 by independence fighter Lee Ki-nam for the purpose of restoring national spirit and educating the national spirit. It is the first oratory organization in Korea. It has produced many leaders over its 76-year history. It holds a competition every year to promote the spirit of independence fighters who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of the country, create a new opportunity for national unity through preemptive veterans’ compensation, and encourage the patriotism and spirit of sacrifice of those who sacrificed and devoted themselves for the country. In particular, this competition has been operating a national participation judging committee system for the first time in Korea in the oratory speech contest category since the previous competition.” They added, “Participants should submit manuscripts that include: ▲To carry on the noble spirit of sacrifice of independence fighters and launch a new spirit movement suitable for the era of globalization; ▲To advance the future of a unified country by sublimating the noble spirit of sacrifice of independence fighters into a creative driving force; ▲To unite the nation as one through preemptive veterans’ compensation that allows the nation to have the heart to sacrifice and devote itself for the nation. “Just prepare,” he said.
According to this information, the target participants are elementary, middle, high school, and college students nationwide who agree with the purpose of the contest and wish to participate, as well as overseas Koreans in general. The speech presentation time is 4 minutes for elementary school students, 5 minutes for middle and high school students, and 6 minutes for college and general students. Awards are scheduled to include the Presidential Award, the 3rd Division Chief of Staff Award, and the Minister of Related Ministries Award. Sponsors include government agencies and local governments such as the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Unification, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Seoul Metropolitan Council.
