도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 11일(현지시간) 오는 8월 1일 시행되는 상호관세 관련해 "그저 열심히 (협상) 하라는 것이며 우리는 수십년간 우방·적대국 모두에 이용당해왔다"고 밝혔다.
미 'CNN' 등에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 폭우·홍수로 대규모 인명피해가 발생한 미 텍사스주 커빌카운티 방문에 앞서 워싱톤DC 백악관 출발 전 '상호관세 유예 만료 전 세계 각국에 해줄 조언은 무언가'란 취재진 질의에 "솔직히 많은 경우 우방국들이 적대국들보다 더 나빴다"며 이같이 답했다.
그러면서 "따라서 나는 단지 '계속 열심히 일하라, 모두 잘 풀릴 것'이라 말하고 싶다"고 덧붙였다.

또 브라질 내에서 쿠데타 모의 혐의를 받는 자이르 보우소나루 전 대통령에 대해선 "그들(브라질)은 보우소나루 (전) 대통령을 매우 불공정하게 대하고 있다"고 지적했다.
이어 캐나다에 35% 관세 서한을 보낸 것에 대해 "어제 보냈고 그들(캐나다)이 전화했다"며 "서한이 잘 도착한 것 같다"고 전했다.
더불어 미 중앙은행 연방준비제도(Fed·연준) 제롬 파월 의장 관련해선 "일을 끔찍하게 했다"며 "(금리가) 3%포인트 더 낮아야 한다"고 강조했다.
트럼프 대통령은 러시아 드론 공격으로 인한 우크라이나 산부인과 병원 파괴 문제 관련해선 "알고 있다"며 "여러분은 어떤 일이 일어나는지 보게 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
한편 트럼프 대통령은 이날 부인 멜라니아 여사와 함께 290여명의 사망·실종자가 발생한 텍사스주 커빌카운티 홍수 참사 현장을 방문해 피해 주민들에 대한 위로와 함께 구조대원들도 격려했다.
트럼프 대통령은 현지 간담회에서 여름 캠프에 참가했다 희생된 소녀들에 대해 "이 상상할 수 없는 비극에 슬퍼하면서 하나님이 이 어리고 아름다운 소녀들을 천국에서 위로 손길로 맞아 주셨음을 알기에 안도한다"며 "나의 행정부는 텍사스를 돕기 위해 권한 안에서 모든 일을 하고 있다"고 전했다.

At a local meeting, President Trump said of the girls who died while attending a summer camp, "While I mourn this unimaginable tragedy, I am relieved to know that God is reaching out to these young, beautiful girls with a comforting hand from heaven," and "My administration is doing everything within its power to help Texas."
