답사에는 여유당 시민대학 1기 수료생 25명을 비롯해 정호영 정약용 7대 종손, 주광덕 시장 및 시 관계자 등이 참석했으며, 1박 2일 동안 정약용 선생의 유배지인 전라남도 강진 일대를 중심으로 다양한 유적지를 방문했다.
첫날에는 경기도 광주에 위치한 천진암 성지를 찾아 정약종 등 천주교 성인의 묘역을 둘러봤으며, 이어 강진군 다산청렴연수원으로 이동해 일정을 마무리했다. 이튿날에는 사의재, 백련사, 다산초당을 차례로 탐방하고, 강진다산박물관을 방문해 정약용 선생의 유물과 생애를 돌아보는 시간을 보냈다.
답사 이후에는 강진원 강진군수를 비롯한 군 관계자, 다산동호회장 등과의 정담회를 통해 두 도시가 정약용 정신을 널리 알리기 위한 공동 협력의 필요성에 대해 공감했다.
