[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] ‘남해 지족해협 죽방렴 어업’이 지난 9일 유엔 산하 세계식량농업기구(FAO)로부터 세계중요농업유산(GIAHS)으로 새롭게 등재됐다.
이는 ‘하동·광양 섬진강 재첩잡이 손틀어업’, ‘제주 해녀어업’에 이어 대한민국에서 세 번째로 등재된 어업분야 세계중요농업유산이다.
장충남 남해군수는 14일 기자회견을 열고 세계중요농업유산으로 등재된 지족죽방렴을 보존·전승하기 위한 향후 계획과 죽방렴을 지역의 지속가능한 발전을 위한 관광·교육·전시 자원으로 육성하겠다는 로드맵을 제시했다.
‘남해 지족해협 죽방렴어업’은 남해군 지족해협 일대에서 이루어지는 전통어업이다. 섬과 섬 사이 좁은 바다 물목에 조류가 흘러들어오는 쪽을 향해 V자형으로 말목을 박은 후, 말목과 말목 사이에 촘촘한 대나무 발을 설치해 고기가 물 흐름에 따라 자연스럽게 몰리도록 유도하여 말목 끝에 몰린 고기를 잡는 방식이다.
죽방렴어업은 15세기부터 이루어졌으며, 독특한 바다 환경, 역사적 배경, 문화 활동 등과 연계되어 현재까지 지속 발전했다.

‘Namhae Jijok Strait Jukbangryeom Fishery’ was newly listed as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations on the 9th.
