【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=국내 최대 규모의 유소년 축구 축제인 ‘2025 화랑대기 전국 유소년 축구대회’가 오는 8월 5일부터 20일까지 14일간 경주시 일원에서 성대하게 개최된다. 대회에 앞서 환영만찬을 겸한 개회식은 8월 4일 오후 6시, 더케이호텔 경주 거문고홀에서 열린다.

이번 대회에는 전국에서 총 727개 팀, 약 1만5,000명의 선수단이 참가해 총 2,200여 경기를 치를 예정으로, 지난해보다 122개 팀, 3,000여 명이 늘어난 역대 최대 규모다.
연령별로는 U-12 부문 360개 팀, U-11 부문 367개 팀이 참가하며, 대회는 1주차(8월 511일) 395개 팀, 2주차(8월 1420일) 332개 팀으로 나뉘어 진행된다. 주요 경기장은 시민운동장, 스마트에어돔, 축구공원, 알천구장, 화랑마을 등이며, 안강·건천·외동·감포 등은 연습구장으로 활용된다.
이번 대회는 경주시와 대한축구협회가 공동 주최하고, 경주시축구협회가 주관한다. 경주시는 원활한 대회 운영을 위해 식중독 예방, 교통 질서 확립, 주차 대책, 의료 지원, 언론 홍보 등 다각적인 부문에서 부서 간 협업체계를 구축해 지원에 나선다.
이와 함께 경주시는 오는 8월 31일부터 9월 4일까지 ‘화랑대기 국제 유소년 축구대회’도 연이어 개최한다. APEC 회원국 7개국에서 10개 팀(250명)이 참가하며, 국내 유소년 10개 팀과 함께 총 20개 팀 500명이 친선 경기를 통해 국제 교류의 장을 펼칠 예정이다. 국제대회 개회식은 8월 30일 오후 6시, 더케이호텔 경주 거문고홀에서 열린다.
참가국은 일본, 중국, 인도네시아, 필리핀, 베트남, 말레이시아, 미얀마 등으로, APEC 정상회의를 앞두고 경주를 중심으로 한 스포츠 외교 무대가 확대되고 있다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “화랑대기는 단순한 유소년 축구대회를 넘어, 대한민국 축구의 미래를 키우고 세계와 소통하는 글로벌 플랫폼으로 성장하고 있다”며 “경주의 역사문화 자산과 결합해 스포츠 관광도시로서의 위상을 한층 높일 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.

The largest ever '2025 Hwarangdaegi National Youth Soccer Tournament' kicks off in Gyeongju next month
The '2025 Hwarangdaegi National Youth Soccer Tournament', the largest youth soccer festival in Korea, will be held in Gyeongju City for 14 days from August 5 to 20. The opening ceremony, which includes a welcome dinner, will be held at 6 PM on August 4 at the Geomungo Hall of The K Hotel Gyeongju.
A total of 727 teams and approximately 15,000 players from around the country will participate in this tournament, playing a total of 2,200 games, which is 122 more teams and 3,000 more players than last year, making it the largest ever.
By age, 360 teams in the U-12 division and 367 teams in the U-11 division will participate, and the competition will be divided into 395 teams in the first week (August 5-11) and 332 teams in the second week (August 14-20). The main stadiums are the Citizens’ Stadium, Smart Air Dome, Soccer Park, Alcheon Stadium, and Hwarang Village, and Angang, Geoncheon, Oedong, and Gampo will be used as practice stadiums.
This competition is co-hosted by Gyeongju City and the Korea Football Association, and organized by the Gyeongju City Football Association. Gyeongju City will support the smooth operation of the competition by establishing a multi-faceted inter-departmental collaboration system in areas such as food poisoning prevention, traffic order, parking measures, medical support, and media relations.
In addition, Gyeongju City will also hold the ‘Hwarangdaegi International Youth Soccer Tournament’ from August 31 to September 4. 10 teams (250 people) from 7 APEC member countries will participate, and a total of 20 teams (500 people) including 10 domestic youth teams will play friendly matches to promote international exchange. The opening ceremony of the international competition will be held at 6 PM on August 30th at the Geomungo Hall of The K Hotel Gyeongju.
The participating countries include Japan, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Myanmar, and the sports diplomacy stage centered around Gyeongju is expanding ahead of the APEC summit.
Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “The Hwarangdaegi is growing beyond a simple youth soccer competition into a global platform that fosters the future of Korean soccer and communicates with the world,” and added, “We will do our best to further enhance Gyeongju’s status as a sports tourism city by combining it with its historical and cultural assets.”
