충청남도가 내포신도시를 중심으로 미래형 교통 인프라 구축에 나섰다.
충남도는 22일 충남도서관에서 ‘내포신도시 자율주행 시범운행지구’의 공식 운영을 하루 앞두고 도민을 대상으로 한 자율주행 셔틀 탑승체험 시승식을 개최했다.
이번 행사는 자율주행 기술에 대한 주민들의 이해도를 높이고, 향후 본격 운행될 자율주행 셔틀 사업에 대한 지역사회 관심을 유도하고자 마련됐다. 시승식에는 도청 관계자와 충남혁신도시관리본부, KAIST 모빌리티연구소, 롯데이노베이트 등 관련 기관과 기업, 예산 보성초등학교 3학년 학생들을 포함해 약 40명이 참석했다.
행사는 사업 취지 설명과 안전 교육에 이어 실제 자율주행 셔틀 탑승 체험 순으로 진행됐다. 이날 학생들은 운전자 없이 스스로 주행하는 셔틀에 직접 올라 미래 교통 기술을 몸소 체험하며 높은 호응을 보였다. 한 초등학생은 “자동차가 스스로 달리는 게 신기하고 무섭지 않았다”며 “앞으로 이런 차가 많아졌으면 좋겠다”고 말했다.
