보수 정당 국민의힘이 무너졌다. 이제는 아무리 눈을 감고 귀를 막아도 부정할 수 없는 현실이다. 간판은 여전히 걸려 있지만, 내용은 사라졌고, 이름은 남아 있어도 정신은 소멸했다. 정강은 구호로만 존재하고, 철학은 빈껍데기가 되었으며, 품격은 조롱의 대상이 되었다.
그 붕괴를 가장 선명하게 보여준 사건이 있다. 바로 ‘전한길 현상’이다.
○ 극우 포퓰리즘에 잠식당한 보수 정당
지난 6월 9일, 한국사 강의와 유튜브 채널로 이름을 알린 전한길이 국민의힘에 전격 입당했다. 그는 10만 유튜브 구독자를 당원으로 만들었다며 당의 주류 정치판에 뛰어들었다. 언뜻 보면 정치 신인의 등장이지만, 실제로는 정당의 정체성과 철학이 무너지고 있음을 알리는 경고음이었다.
그는 대선 이후 부정선거 음모론을 확산시켜 왔고, 최근에는 12·3 사태 당시 계엄령을 '계몽령'이라 미화하며 헌정질서마저 부정하는 발언을 쏟아냈다. 당 지도부 일부는 윤리위를 통해 선 긋기에 나섰지만, 이미 그의 등장은 보수정당 내부의 깊은 균열을 적나라하게 드러내기에 충분했다.
정당은 대중을 두려워할 줄 알아야 하지만, 대중의 눈치를 보며 검증 없는 인기와 자극에 편승해서는 안 된다. 유튜브 썸네일과 알고리즘이 공천을 좌우하고, 선동이 정책을 대신하는 순간, 그것은 정당이 아니라 콘텐츠 집단이다.
○ 전한길은 원인이 아니라 증상이다
전한길 개인을 비판하는 것으로 이 사태를 넘길 수는 없다. 그를 통해 드러난 보수 정당의 철학 실종, 시스템 붕괴, 정치적 경박성이 더 심각한 문제다. 윤석열이 탄핵 정국 이후 보여준 일련의 행태들은 보수가 원래 지켜야 했던 신중함과 절제, 품격과 책임감과는 거리가 멀다. 그 주변을 감싸고 있는 정치 초보들이 충성 경쟁을 벌이는 사이, 합리적 보수는 설 자리를 잃고, 중도와 청년층은 등을 돌렸다. 대신 그 자리를 극우 유튜버와 팬덤 정치, 대중 영합주의가 점령하고 있다. 국민의힘은 지금 극우 포퓰리즘에 먹히고 있다. 전한길은 그 증상일 뿐, 병의 본질은 내부에 있다.
○ 신보수, 보수의 해체가 아니라 재건이다
지금 필요한 건 해답이다. 나는 그 이름을 ‘신보수’라 부른다. 신보수는 낡은 보수의 리브랜딩이 아니다. 기존의 보수를 해체하고, 철학과 구조를 새롭게 재구성하는 정치적 재건 프로젝트다. 이념이 아니라, 정치 시스템과 태도의 근본적 개조다.
신보수는 다음 네 가지 가치를 중심에 둔다.
첫째, 철학의 복원이다. 자유는 아무 말이나 쏟아낼 권리가 아니다. 품격과 책임 없는 자유는 폭력일 뿐이다. 보수는 절제된 언어, 성숙한 태도, 품위 있는 메시지를 기본 덕목으로 삼아야 한다.
둘째, 경제 정의의 회복이다. 진짜 보수는 기업의 이익만 대변하지 않는다.
청년, 자영업자, 노동자 모두가 공정한 출발선에 설 수 있도록, 시장 구조를 설계하고 사다리를 놓아야 한다.
셋째, 안보의 재구성이다. 색깔론으로 버티던 시대는 지났다. 신보수는 이념이 아니라 실력으로 안보를 증명하고, 전문성을 기반으로 국민 통합형 안보를 추구해야 한다.
넷째, 문화의 품격이다. 정치는 태도다. 막말과 혐오, 선동이 아니라, 격조와 품위, 절제와 존중을 말해야 한다. 보수의 언어는 다시 공공의 언어로 돌아가야 한다.

○ 정치 시스템의 개조 없이는 혁신도 없다
그러나 철학만으로는 부족하다. 신보수가 정치적 수사에 그치지 않으려면, 제도와 시스템의 개혁이 따라야 한다.
첫째, 국민참여경선제(오픈프라이머리)를 도입해야 한다. 공천권을 당원과 국민에게 돌려주지 않으면, 내부 권력 암투는 계속된다.
둘째, 블록체인 기반의 디지털 정당 시스템을 구축해야 한다. 공천, 예산, 의사결정 전 과정을 기록하고 공개해 투명성을 확보해야 한다.
셋째, 2030 정치참여 의무할당제를 도입해야 한다. 청년층의 정치 진입을 시스템으로 보장하지 않으면, 정당은 늙고 고립된다.
넷째, 정치윤리 헌장을 제정해야 한다.
품격, 존중, 사실 확인이라는 기본 윤리를 정치인의 행동 원칙으로 명문화해야 한다.
이 4가지 제도가 작동하지 않는다면, ‘신보수’는 또 하나의 유행어로 끝날 것이다. 무늬만 혁신, 이름뿐인 개혁은 오히려 더 깊은 불신만 남긴다.
○ 우리는 전한길의 보수가 될 것인가, 신보수가 될 것인가
보수의 위기는 한 명의 문제에서 비롯된 것이 아니다. 그것은 전체 구조가 썩었고, 철학이 비었으며, 시스템이 무너졌기 때문이다. 따라서 해답은 인물 중심의 카리스마가 아니라, 정치 구조 자체의 개조에 있다. 신보수는 보수를 포기하자는 게 아니다. 보수를 살려내기 위한 해부이자 재건, 품격의 복원과 구조의 설계다. 정치는 콘텐츠가 아니라 구조이고, 선동이 아니라 원칙이다.
극단이 아니라 상식이고, 복고가 아니라 미래다. 지금 이 순간, 우리는 묻지 않을 수 없다. 우리는 전한길의 보수가 될 것인가, 아니면 시대를 이끌 신보수가 될 것인가. 그 선택이 대한민국 보수의 운명을 결정지을 것이다. jeongkeekim@naver.com

The signboard is still there, but the content has disappeared, and even though the name remains, the spirit has disappeared. The platform exists only as a slogan, the philosophy has become an empty shell, and the dignity has become an object of ridicule.
There is an incident that shows this collapse most clearly. It is the 'Jeon Han-gil phenomenon'.
○ Conservative party consumed by far-right populism
On June 9, Jeon Han-gil, who became famous for his Korean history lectures and YouTube channel, joined the People Power Party. He jumped into the party's mainstream politics, saying that he had made 100,000 YouTube subscribers into party members. At first glance, it was the emergence of a political newcomer, but in reality, it was a warning that the party’s identity and philosophy were collapsing.
He has been spreading conspiracy theories about election fraud since the presidential election, and recently, he has even made remarks that beautify the martial law during the December 3 Incident as an “enlightenment decree” and deny the constitutional order. Some of the party’s leadership has tried to draw a line through the ethics committee, but his emergence has already been enough to clearly reveal the deep rift within the conservative party.
A party should know how to fear the public, but it should not ride on unverified popularity and stimulation while looking at the public’s mood. The moment YouTube thumbnails and algorithms influence nominations and incitement replaces policy, it is not a party but a content group.
○ Jeon Han-gil is a symptom, not a cause
We cannot get over this situation by criticizing Jeon Han-gil as an individual. The conservative party’s disappearance of philosophy, collapse of the system, and political frivolity revealed through him are more serious problems. The series of behaviors that Yoon Seok-yeol has shown since the impeachment are far from the prudence, moderation, dignity, and responsibility that conservatives should have maintained originally. While the political novices surrounding him compete for loyalty, rational conservatives have lost their place, and the moderates and the youth have turned their backs. Instead, far-right YouTubers, fandom politics, and populism are taking over. The People Power Party is currently being eaten by far-right populism. Jeon Han-gil is just a symptom, and the essence of the disease is inside.
○ New Conservatism, Not Dismantling Conservatism, but Reconstruction
What is needed now is an answer. I call it ‘New Conservatism.’ New conservatism is not a rebranding of old conservatism. It is a political reconstruction project that dismantles existing conservatism and reconstructs its philosophy and structure anew. It is not an ideology, but a fundamental reform of the political system and attitude.
New conservatism centers on the following four values.
First, it is the restoration of philosophy. Freedom is not the right to say whatever you want. Freedom without dignity and responsibility is nothing but violence. Conservatism should have restrained language, a mature attitude, and dignified messages as its basic virtues.
Second, it is the restoration of economic justice. True conservatism does not only represent the interests of corporations.
We should design the market structure and lay a ladder so that young people, self-employed people, and workers can all stand on a fair starting line.
Third, it is the reconstruction of security. The era of holding out with color theory is over. New conservatism should prove security with ability, not ideology,
and pursue national integration-type security based on expertise.
Fourth, it is the dignity of culture. Politics is an attitude. It should speak of class, dignity, restraint, and respect, not abusive language, hatred, and incitement.
The language of conservatism should return to the language of the public.
○ There is no innovation without reforming the political system.
However, philosophy alone is not enough. If new conservatism is not to stop at political rhetoric, it should be followed by reform of institutions and systems.
First, the National Participation Primary System (open primary) should be introduced. If the right to nominate candidates is not returned to party members and the public, the internal power struggle will continue.
Second, a digital party system based on blockchain must be established. The entire process of nomination, budget, and decision-making must be recorded and disclosed to ensure transparency.
Third, the 2030 Political Participation Quota System must be introduced. If the system does not guarantee the entry of young people into politics, the party will become old and isolated.
Fourth, a political ethics charter must be established.
The basic ethics of dignity, respect, and fact-checking must be codified as the principles of politicians’ conduct.
If these four systems do not work, ‘new conservatism’ will end up as another buzzword. Innovation in name only and reform in name only will only leave deeper distrust.
○ Will we become Jeon Han-gil’s conservatives or new conservatives?
The crisis of conservatism did not originate from one person’s problem. It is because the entire structure is rotten, the philosophy is empty, and the system has collapsed. Therefore, the solution lies not in charisma centered on individuals, but in reforming the political structure itself. Neo-conservatism is not about giving up conservatism. It is an anatomy and reconstruction to revive conservatism, restoration of dignity, and design of structure. Politics is not content but structure, not agitation but principle. It is common sense, not extremism, and not restoration but the future. At this moment, we cannot help but ask. Will we be Jeon Han-gil’s conservatives, or will we be neo-conservatives who will lead the times?
