계양구, ‘계양아라온 워터축제’ 개막식 전격 취소... 아이들 위한 물놀이장 정상 운영

(브레이크뉴스인천 박상도 기자) 계양구가 24일, 최근 전국적으로 발생한 집중호우로 인한 수해 피해와 이재민들의 아픔에 깊이 공감하며, 당초 7월 26일 오후 3시에 예정됐던 ‘제3회 계양아라온 워터축제’ 개막식을 전격 취소하기로 결정했다.

계양구에 따르면, 이번 결정은 지난 23일 윤환 구청장이 주재한 7월 중 확대간부회의에서 이뤄졌다. 

이날 회의에서 윤환 구청장은 “전국적으로 많은 국민이 수해로 인해 삶의 터전을 잃고 고통을 겪고 있는 상황에서, 국가적 재난 상황에 함께 동참하는 의미로 개막식을 취소하는 것이 맞다.”고 강조했다.

이에 따라 공식 개막행사는 취소되지만, 아이들을 위한 물놀이장과 체험 프로그램 등은 예정대로 운영될 예정이다.

한편, ‘계양아라온 워터축제’는 매년 여름 계양구를 대표하는 계절 축제로 자리 잡아 아이들에게 시원한 여름 추억을 선물하고 있다. 

올해 축제는 7월 26일과 27일 양일간 계양아라온 황어광장 등지에서 진행된다.

계양구 관계자는 “이번 워터축제는 사전 접수 시작 하루 만에 마감될 정도로 많은 아이들과 가족들의 기대와 관심을 모았다.”며 “안전을 최우선으로, 아이들이 건강하고 즐겁게 축제를 즐길 수 있도록 철저히 준비하겠다.”고 전했다.
