브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 대통령은 31일 한국과 미국 간 상호관세 협상이 타결된 것과 관련 "큰 고비 하나를 넘었다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 이날 오전 양국 협상이 타결된 직후 페이스북을 통해 "촉박한 기간과 녹록지 않은 여건이었지만 정부는 오직 국익을 최우선으로 협상에 임했다. 다양한 의견을 모으고 전략 다듬기를 반복한 끝에 오늘 드디어 관세협상을 타결했다"며 이같이 말했다.
이 대통령은 "협상은 상대가 있다. 그래서 쉽지 않다"며 "일방만 이익을 취하는 것이 아니라 호혜적인 결과를 도출해 내는 것이 중요하다"고 설명했다.
이어 "이번 협상으로 정부는 수출 환경의 불확실성을 없애고, 미국 관세를 주요 대미 수출 경쟁국보다 낮거나 같은 수준으로 맞춤으로써 주요국들과 동등하거나 우월한 조건으로 경쟁할 수 있는 여건을 마련했다"고 평가했다.
구체적으로는 "통상 합의에 포함된 3500억 달러(한화 486조원) 규모의 펀드는 양국 전략산업 협력의 기반을 공고히 하는 것으로 조선, 반도체, 이차전지, 바이오, 에너지 등 우리가 강점을 가진 산업 분야에서 우리 기업들의 적극적인 미국 시장 진출을 돕는 역할을 할 것"이라며 "특히 이 중 1500억 불(209조원)은 조선협력 전용 펀드로 우리 기업의 미국 조선업 진출을 든든하게 뒷받침할 것"이라고 했다.
또한 "이번 합의는 제조업 재건이라는 미국의 이해와 미국 시장에서 우리 기업들의 경쟁력 확대라는 우리의 의지가 맞닿은 결과"라며 "한미 간 산업협력이 더욱 강화되고 한미 동맹도 더욱 확고해지는 계기가 될 것이라 기대한다. 앞으로도 정부는 국익 중심 실용외교를 항상 최우선 원칙으로 삼겠다"고 말했다.
한편, 도널드 트럼프 대통령은 30일(현지시간) 자신의 SNS를 통해 한국과 미국은 상호관세율을 25%에서 15%로 인하하는 무역 합의를 체결했으며 2주 내 이재명 대통령과의 양자회담을 갖고 합의 체결을 발표할 것이라고 했다. 미국이 한국에 수출하는 제품에 대해선 무관세가 적용된다는 말도 덧붙였다.

He added that tariffs will be applied to products exported from the United States to Korea.
