제26회 세계코리아포럼((상임의장 이창주)은 8월 6일~7(현지시간)일까지 이틀간의 일정으로 “아프리카 케냐 나이로비 국립대 유엔타워에서 한 케냐 수교 60주년을 맞아 '글로벌 사우스 부상과 아프리카 한반도'를 주제로 제26회 세계코리아포럼이 개막했다.”고 밝혔다.

세계코리아포럼이 지난 26년간 해마다 한반도 평화·통일과 디아스포라 등을 주제로 2000년 미국 뉴욕을 시작으로 지구촌 주요 지역에서 한 해도 거르지 않고 지속해 왔다. 특별히 올해는 아프리카 대륙에서 처음으로 열렸다.
이창주 국제코리아재단 상임의장은 "글로벌 노스에서 글로벌 사우스로 이동하는 대전환시대에 결속과 포용을 위한 신흥 무대인 동아프리카공동체의 허브 케냐 나이로비에서 포럼을 개최한다"며, "아프리카연합(AU)의 어젠다인 통합과 번영, 평화로운 아프리카 비전을 국제적으로 공유하고 분단 한반도의 평화 프로세스를 연동해야 한다.“고 밝혔다.

이번 행사에는 26개국 100여명의 전문가와 오피니언 리더 등이 참석해 아프리카, 한반도, 국제관계, 의회 외교, 경제, 인문·디아스포라 등 7개 세션으로 진행된다.
한반도 세션에서는 정동영 통일부장관이 '한반도 광복 분단 80년사와 평화통일 실현 전망'을 주제로 서울에서 줌 영상으로 참여해 감동적인 기조연설을 해 시공간을 초월해 박수를 받았다.
존슨 아르투르 사카자 나이로비시장과 강형식 주케냐 한국대사는 환영사를, 모세스 웨탕굴라 케냐 국회의장은 축사를 했다.
포럼 대회장이자 '아프리카의 가발왕'으로 알려진 최영철 사나그룹 회장이 '아프리카의 코리안 디아스포라 그 도전과 물결'을 주제로 감동적인 인사말을 전했다. 최 회장은 케냐에서 가장 유명한 한인 사업가로 성공한 인물이다. 1989년 회사를 설립해 동아프리카 가발 시장의 70%를 점유하는 케냐 8대 기업(납세액 기준)으로 성장시킨 입지전적인 인물이다.
의회외교 세션에선 한케냐 의정외교 강화를 위해 이재정·부승찬·이용우·김형동 의원 등이 슐레이 제프코스게이 케냐 하원 부의장 등과 '변화하는 세계질서, 미래를 여는 공공외교'를 주제로 심도있는 '국제의회세션'이 펼쳐졌다.
