지난 1월 26일 충남 태안의 씨름 행사장에서 H언론사 소속 J기자가 취재 중인 기자에게 부적절한 발언을 해 명예훼손 논란이 일고 있다.
당시 J기자는 행사장 옆 흡연실에서 여러 명이 모인 자리에서, 해당 취재기자가 “태안 자율방범대로부터 금전을 받은 것처럼” 말하며 “왜 태안 자율방범대를 취재하느냐”고 항의한 것으로 알려졌다.
이에 취재기자는 사건 발생 4일 뒤인 1월 30일, J기자를 명예훼손 혐의로 서산경찰서에 고발장을 제출하기 위해 방문했다. 그러나 H언론사 소속 K기자가 “J기자는 이제 3년 차 초보다. 잘 몰라서 그런 것이니 한 번만 용서해 달라”는 취지로 전화를 해왔고, 취재기자가 이를 받아들여 고발장을 접수하지 않은 것으로 전해졌다.
당시 현장에 있었던 A공무원은기자와의 통화에서 한번 물러났으면 자중 했어야지 왜 또 그런 행위를 하였는지 모르겠다며. H언론사 J기자를 비판 했다.(당시 현장에 있었던 공무원은 공개시 불이익을 당 할 우려가 있어 A라 표기함)
해당 취재기자는 최근 “당시 사건은 형법상 일반 명예훼손죄(형법 제307조)에 해당하며, 공소시효가 3년이므로 추가 고발을 진행할 방침”이라고 밝혔다.
형법 제307조는 공연히 사실을 적시해 사람의 명예를 훼손한 경우 2년 이하 징역이나 금고 또는 500만원 이하의 벌금에 처하며, 허위 사실을 적시한 경우 5년 이하 징역, 10년 이하 자격정지 또는 1천만원 이하 벌금에 처하도록 규정하고 있다.
서산경찰서 관계자는 “아직 관련 고발장이 공식 접수되지는 않았다”며 “접수 즉시 사실관계 확인 절차를 밟게 될 것”이라고 전했다.
