경기북부보훈지청(지청장 손순욱)이 광복 80주년을 맞아 양주시 조소앙 선생 기념관을 방문해 독립운동 정신을 되새기는 시간을 가졌다.
지난 13일 경기북부보훈지청 직원 4명은 양주시 남면에 위치한 조소앙 선생 기념관을 찾아 전시관을 둘러보고 선생의 생애와 독립운동 활동에 대한 자세한 해설을 들었다.

이번 방문은 경기북부보훈지청이 올해 2월부터 12월까지 진행하고 있는 '4인 5각, 함께 걸어 보훈' 프로젝트의 일환으로 이뤄졌다.
이 프로젝트는 국민들에게 현충시설과 보훈 정신을 널리 알리기 위해 기획된 1년 단위 사업이다.

프로젝트를 통해 경기북부보훈지청 직원 4명이 한 조를 이뤄 매달 관할 11개 시군 중 한 곳의 현충시설을 방문하고 있다.
방문 과정에서 국가보훈부 사업 홍보와 직원 간 소통 활동을 자유롭게 펼치고 있어 업무 효율성과 보훈 정신 확산이라는 두 마리 토끼를 잡고 있다는 평가다.
지난달 7월 양평군 몽양기념관 방문에 이어 8월에는 광복절을 맞아 조소앙 선생 기념관을 선택했다.
조소앙 선생 기념관은 2016년 양주시가 개관한 시설로, 대표적인 독립운동가임에도 널리 알려지지 않은 조소앙 선생의 생애를 재조명하고 그의 독립운동 정신을 후손들에게 전하기 위해 마련됐다.
이번 활동에 참여한 보훈과 양훈모 주무관은 "납북되었다는 이유로 그동안 조명받지 못했던 독립유공자에 대해서 더 잘 알게 되었다"며 "올해 광복 80주년을 맞아 이곳과 같은 많은 독립운동 관련 기념관이 활성화되어 지역사회의 쉼터가 되었으면 좋겠다"고 소감을 밝혔다.

참여 직원들의 자세한 활동 후기는 경기북부보훈지청 공식 인스타그램을 통해 확인할 수 있다.
경기북부보훈지청은 다음 달인 9월에는 연천군에 위치한 항일독립운동 기념탑을 방문할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
지청 관계자는 "직원들이 직접 만들어가는 '4인 5각, 함께 걸어 보훈' 프로젝트를 통해 국민들이 주변의 현충시설이 갖는 의미를 되새기는 기회가 되기를 기대한다"고 말했다.
한편 조소앙 선생은 한국광복군 창설과 대한민국 임시정부 활동에 핵심적인 역할을 했던 독립운동가로, 6·25 전쟁 중 납북되어 그동안 상대적으로 덜 알려져 있던 인물이다.

Yang Hoon-mo, a senior officer in the Veterans Affairs Department who participated in the event, said, "I learned more about independence activists who have previously been overlooked due to their abduction to North Korea."
