브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 대통령은 한미 정상회담을 하루 앞둔 24일 "최종적으로는 현실적이고도 합리적인 결론에 이르게 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
뉴시스 보도에 따르면 이 대통령은 이날 일본 도쿄에서 미국으로 향하는 전용기에서 가진 기자간담회에서 "국가 공공 이익을 최우선으로 두겠다고 다짐하고 있다"며 이같이 말했다.
이 대통령은 "지금은 과할 만큼 국가 중심, 자국 중심 시점이어서 우리 국익을 지키기 위해 더 노력이 필요한 시점"이라며 "그런 어려움을 극복하고 이겨내는 것이 제가 할 일이고 또 그렇게 해야 한다"고 강조했다.
이어 "트럼프 대통령은 자신이 어떤 방식으로 협상하는지 자신의 저서 '거래의 기술'에 다 써놨더라"면서 "과정이 매우 힘들지만 대비할 수 있다고 본다. 국민들이 기대하는 바를 충족하지 못하더라도 최소한 실망감은 드리지 않아야 한다는 책임감을 가지고 있다"고 말했다.
이 대통령은 또한 "정상회담에서 갑자기 얘기가 나오는 것은 크게 많지 않다. 주요 의제에 대해 구체적으로 논의하고 있고 지금도 실무적 협의는 계속되고 있다"며 "대화도 무리하지 않을 것이라고 기대하고 있고 그렇게 예상하고 있다"고 했다.
한반도 비핵화와 관련해서는 "지금 단계에서는 당연히 한반도 비핵화로 가야 하지만 당장 일거에 실현 가능한 목표냐 크게 비현실적이라는 다 인정하지 않느냐"며 "일단 멈추고 축소하고 폐기한다고 했는데 이 얘기는 내가 한 얘기가 아니다. 트럼프와 김정일이 한 합의의 핵심 내용"이라고 설명했다.
트럼프 대통령이 '유사시 중국-대만 전쟁 개입' 등 주한미군의 전략적 유연화 요구를 할 가능성에 대해선 "외교 안보 대화는 곤란할, 아주 구체적이고 직접적인 얘기는 잘 안 한다"라며 "주한미군 유연화에 대한 요구가 있는 건 사실이지만 또 우리 입장에서는 쉽게 동의하기 어려운 문제"라고 말했다.
그러면서 "주한미군의 미래형 전략화는 우리 입장에서도 필요한데, 쓰는 단어들이나 의미들이 조금씩 다르다. 그런 것들을 조정하는 것도 협상이기 때문에 전혀 없다고는 할 수 없지만 생각하는 것처럼 험악하지는 않다"고 전했다.
