민주당 대구시당(위원장 허소)은 3일 오후 김대중홀에서 군위군청을 시작으로 8개 구·군과 예산정책협의회를 진행한다. 협의회에서는 이재명 대통령의 대구 지역 대선 공약 이행 방안과 지역 현안 반영을 위한 논의가 집중될 예정이다.
그러나 9개 구·군 중 서구청만 지난해에 이어 올해도 협의회 참여를 거부했다. 나머지 8개 구·군은 대구시와 실무 회의를 통해 예산 확보에 적극 나서고 있다.

민주당은 "서구청이 협의 테이블 참여를 지속적으로 거부할 경우 국비 확보는커녕 주민 삶의 질이 더욱 뒤처질 수밖에 없다"며 "대구 발전의 기회에서 서구만 고립되는 상황을 초래할 수 있다"는 우려를 표했다.
반면 서구청 측은 실무적 관점에서 불참 이유를 해명했다. 서구청 관계자는 "예산정책협의회는 2026년 서구청 핵심 예산 반영을 위한 협의간담회 성격"이라며 "서구는 현재 추진 중인 주요 인프라 구축 사업의 국비가 이미 확보되었으며, 2027년에 대부분 사업이 완료될 예정이어서 참여하지 않기로 결정했다"고 밝혔다.
또한 "내년도 주요업무계획은 현재 수립 단계에 있으며, 업무 계획 완료 후 정책 협의가 필요하다면 언제든지 협의할 의향이 있다"고 덧붙였다.
하지만 지난해에도 협의회 불참을 선언한 점에서, 서구청의 해명이 설득력을 갖추기는 어려워 보인다.
지역정치권에서는 지역 발전과 주민 복리 향상을 위해서는 중앙정부와의 소통이 필수적이며 서구청의 결정이 장기적으로 불리하게 작용할 수 있다는 지적이 이어진다.
