브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 대통령이 한미 간 3500억 달러 규모의 대미 투자펀드 협상과 관련해 "통화스와프 없이 미국이 요구하는 방식으로 전액 현금 투자에 나설 경우 한국은 1997년 외환위기와 같은 상황에 직면할 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
이 대통령은 22일 공개된 로이터 통신와의 인터뷰에서 "미국에 한미 통화스와프 체결을 제안했다"며 이같이 말했다. 이번 인터뷰는 지난 19일 용산 대통령실에서 진행됐다.
이 대통령은 "상업적 타당성을 보장하는 구체적 합의에 도달하는 것이 현재 가장 중요한 과제이자 동시에 가장 큰 장애물"이라며 "실무 협의 과정에서 나온 제안들이 이를 보장하지 못해 양국 간 격차를 좁히기 어렵다"고 말했다.
다만 "동맹 사이에서는 최소한의 합리성을 유지할 수 있을 것이라 믿는다"고 덧붙였다.
이 대통령은 같은날 보도된 영국 BBC 인터뷰에서도 "한국의 3500억 달러 대미 투자에 대한 상업적 타당성 보장 문제로 양국간 이견이 있다"면서 통화스와프 체결 필요성을 언급했다.
이 대통령은 또한 최근 미국 조지아주에서 발생한 한국인 대규모 구금 사태와 관련해선 "가혹한 조치였지만, 미 행정부의 의도가 있었다고 믿지는 않는다"며 "미국이 사과했고 합리적인 해결책을 찾기로 협의 중"이라고 설명했다.
북한의 비핵화 문제에 대해선 "핵 생산 동결은 임시적 긴급조치로서 현실적인 대안"이라고 제시하며 "트럼프 대통령과 김정은 위원장이 핵무기 생산 동결에 합의한다면 이를 수용할 수 있다. 장기적으로 비핵화 목표를 포기하지 않는 한, 북한이 핵과 미사일 개발을 멈추는 것만으로도 분명한 이익이 있다"고 강조했다.
아울러 주한미군 방위비 분담 문제에 대해선 "한국은 방위비를 늘릴 계획이며 안보 현안에서 미국과 큰 이견이 없다"고 말했다.
