브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 권성동 국민의힘 의원에게 불법 정치자금을 건넨 혐의를 받는 한학자 통일교 총재가 구속되면서 통일교와 국민의힘 간 ‘정교 유착’ 의혹을 둘러싼 특검 수사에 속도가 붙고 있다. 이미 권 의원과 중간 전달책인 윤영호 전 세계본부장이 구속된 데 이어, 의혹의 정점으로 꼽히는 한 총재까지 신병이 확보된 것이다.
23일 법조계에 따르면 서울중앙지법 정재욱 영장전담 부장판사는 정치자금법 위반, 청탁금지법 위반, 업무상 횡령, 증거인멸 교사 등 혐의를 받는 한 총재에 대해 "증거인멸 우려가 있다"며 구속영장을 발부했다. 한 총재는 구속 전 피의자 심문(영장심사)을 마친 뒤 서울구치소에 수감됐다.
특검은 통일교가 자금과 교인을 동원해 국민의힘 전당대회, 윤석열 전 대통령의 경선 및 대선을 조직적으로 지원했다고 보고 있다. 윤 전 세계본부장은 이미 구속기소 상태이며, 권 의원도 정치자금법 위반 혐의로 구속됐다.

앞서 특검의 세 차례 소환 요구에 불응하던 한 총재는 권 의원 구속 이후 자진 출석을 통보하며 조사에 응했다. 하지만 조사 과정에서 대부분 혐의를 부인한 것으로 전해졌고, 이러한 태도가 법원이 구속 필요성을 인정하는 근거가 됐다는 분석이다.
특검은 한 총재의 추가 혐의를 보강 수사하는 동시에 통일교와 정치권 간 불법적 연계 의혹 규명에 박차를 가할 방침이다.
특검은 특히 통일교가 2022년 대선에서 윤 당시 후보를 지원하기 위해 ‘쪼개기 후원’을 했는지, 또 지난해 국민의힘 전당대회에서 친윤계 후보 당선을 위해 교인 11만여명을 조직적으로 당원으로 가입시켰는지 여부를 집중 조사하고 있다. 특검은 교인 명부 120만명을 확보한 뒤 국민의힘 당원 명부와 대조 작업을 진행해 상당수 일치하는 기록을 확인한 것으로 알려졌다.
수사팀은 압수수색으로 확보한 자료를 토대로 이르면 이번 주부터 관련자들을 줄소환해 본격적인 수사에 나설 예정이다.
