[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 26일부터 3일간 개최되는 '부산국제록페스티벌'에 '모두를 위한 디자인'을 주제로 페스티벌 최초로 무장애 구역(배리어프리존) 2곳을 조성하고 2028 세계디자인수도(WDC) 부산 홍보에 나선다고 밝혔다.
이는 WDC로 지정된 부산이 디자인을 통한 사회적 가치 실현과 공익 증진에 본격적으로 나서는 상징적인 사례다.
이번 무장애 구역 조성은 부산축제조직위원회가 그동안 장애인 등 이동 약자들로부터 접근성 문제에 대한 문의와 민원을 계기로 시와 협력해 추진됐다. 목표는 누구나 자유롭게 축제를 즐길 수 있는 환경 조성이다.
메인 무대 포함 2개소에 설치… 디자인을 통한 시민 중심 변화 추구
무장애 구역은 '부산국제록페스티벌'의 메인 무대인 '삼락스테이지'와 대중성이 높은 '리버스테이지'에 각각 1곳씩 설치된다. 시와 부산축제조직위원회는 운영 인력을 4명씩 2교대로 배치해 장애인·노약자 등 이동 약자를 포함한 다양한 시민이 불편 없이 공연을 즐길 수 있도록 지원한다.
이 구역은 단순한 접근성 개선을 넘어, 디자인이 시민의 삶에 긍정적 변화를 가져올 수 있음을 보여주는 실천적 사례로 조성된다. 무장애 구역 내부에는 2028 WDC 부산을 소개하는 입간판이 설치되며, 시민들은 큐알(QR)코드를 통해 관련 자료를 쉽게 확인할 수 있다. 또한, 경사로·난간 등 구조물에도 WDC 메시지를 담아 홍보하는 등 디자인을 통한 메시지 전달에 중점을 둔다.
고미진 시 미래디자인본부장은 “세계디자인수도는 디자인 혁신을 통해 사회적 책임과 공공성을 강화하고, 시민의 삶을 실질적으로 변화시키는 중요한 계기가 될 것”이라며 “이번 무장애 구역 조성은 다양한 행사와 도시 공간에 '모두를 위한 디자인'이 확산되는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다”라고 전했다. 시는 2028 WDC 지정을 전환점으로 삼아, 시민의 발길이 닿는 문화 전반에 디자인적 시각을 적용해 사회문제 해결을 모색하고, 미적 요소를 넘어 도시 혁신과 시민 중심의 변화를 이끌어갈 계획이다.

Installed at Main Stages… Pursuing Citizen-Centric Change Through Design
The Barrier-Free Zones will be installed with one location each at the 'Busan International Rock Festival's' main stage, 'Samnak Stage,' and the highly popular 'River Stage.' The city and the Organizing Committee will deploy operating personnel in two shifts of four to ensure diverse citizens, including the disabled and the elderly, can enjoy the performances without inconvenience.
These zones are being established as a practical example demonstrating that design can bring about positive change in citizens' lives, going beyond mere accessibility improvement. Inside the Barrier-Free Zones, standees introducing the 2028 WDC Busan will be installed, allowing citizens to easily check related information via QR codes. Furthermore, the WDC message will be promoted on structures like ramps and railings, emphasizing message delivery through design.
Ko Mi-jin, Director-General of the City's Future Design Headquarters, said, "The World Design Capital will be a significant opportunity to not just change the city's appearance, but to strengthen social responsibility and publicness through design innovation and fundamentally change citizens' lives."
She added, "We expect the creation of these Barrier-Free Zones at the Busan International Rock Festival to be a catalyst for the spread of 'Design for All' across various events and urban spaces." Taking the 2028 WDC designation as a turning point, the city plans to apply a design perspective to all aspects of culture frequented by citizens to seek solutions to social problems and drive urban innovation and citizen-centric change beyond aesthetic elements.
