본지(브레이크뉴스)가 첫 시도(試圖)한 구글 영문번역기를 이용한 기사-정보의 영문번역물을 신문(본지)에 게재하기 시작한지 올해(2025년 9월28일)로 만 5년째를 맞이했습니다.
필자는 브레이크뉴스 지난 2020년 9월28일자 “[공지]본지 기사-글, 구글 번역기로 번역한 영문기사를 게재합니다!” 제목의 글에서 “지난 2019년 구글 영문번역기가 번역한 영문 외신 글을 접했을 때는 어색한 부분이 더러 있었는데, 요즘 구글 번역기의 정확성이 지난 1년 동안에 급 증진된 것으로 파악됐습니다. 코로나19 시대, 그 이후 세계는 하나의 세계로 더 나아가고 있습니다. 이러한 시대에 구글 영문 번역기는 언어장애를 격파하는 국제적 소통핵심의 역할을 해주고 있다고 생각합니다. 이런 취지 아래, 브레이크뉴스는 주요 기사의 말미에 그 기사를 구글 영문 번역기로 번역한 영문기사의 게재를 시작합니다.”고 밝히고 “브레이크뉴스의 이러한 시도는 분명히 새로운 시도입니다. 다소의 번역오류가 뒤따를 수도 있습니다. 그러나 현대 사회가 발전시킨 인공지능(AI)의 혜택을 나누려는 시도임을 알려드립니다. 국제사회에서 각 민족이 써온 여러 가지의 다양한 언어는 이제 인공지능에 의해 번역-소통되는 시대입니다. 그 누구든 구글 번역기를 이용, 한글기사를 영문 기사로 변환시켜 읽을 수 있는 시대입니다.”라고 설명드린 바 있습니다.
이어 “본지가 한글 기사를 구글 번역기를 이용해 번역된 영문기사를 기사 말미에 게재하는 것을 시도하는 것은 독자에게 편리를 제공하는 차원임을 알려드립니다. 이는 한국의 언론매체 가운데 첫 번째(한국어를 영어로 번역-Korean to English translation)로 시도하는 것입니다. 구글 번역기의 번역 기능이 완벽하지는 않는 만큼, 어느 내용에선 다소의 오번역이 있을 수 있음을 전제로 합니다. 전문 영자매체가 아닌 만큼 이를 감안, 읽어주시기를 바랍니다. 구글번역기는 대단한 업적입니다. 인류사회는 새로운 미래로 나아갑니다.”고 덧붙였습니다.

본지(브레이크뉴스)는 이때부터 지난 5년간에 걸쳐, 줄기차게, 기사 후미(後尾)에 “*아래는 위 기사를 '구글 번역'으로 번역한 영문 기사의 [전문]입니다. '구글번역'은 이해도 높이기를만여건에 다ᇍ합니다. 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 영문 번역에 오류가 있을 수 있음을 전제로 합니다.<*The following is [the full text] of the English article translated by 'Google Translate'. 'Google Translate' is working hard to improve understanding. It is assumed that there may be errors in the English translation.>”라는 설명문을 첨부했습니다. 그리고 구글 영문번역 기사를 중단 없이-지속적으로 첨부해왔습니다.
올(2025년) 9월28일자로 브레이크뉴스에 탑재된 뉴스-정보의 총 건수는 1,123,496건(2025년 9월27일 10시 현재)입니다. 지난 2020년 9월28일부터 5년간에 걸쳐 모든 뉴스-정보 뒤쪽에 구글영문 번역기가 번역한 번역문을 첨부(365,359건)해왔으니, 본지에는 총 1,488,855건(2025년 9월27일 10시현재)에 달하는 구글 영문변역문 기사(극 소수 제외 기사도 있었음)가 게재됐습니다. 그러하니 본지에 탑재된 원천 뉴스-정보는 총 149만여 건에 도달했습니다. 이 부분에서, 구글 영문번역 기사문은 이해를 돕기 위한 차원(완성도 미흡)이었음을 공지(公知)합니다.
구글 영문번역기를 이용한 영문번역 기사-정보는 인공지능(AI)시대를 맞아 구글사의 노력으로 영문의 번역은 오류가 차츰 줄어들었습니다. 그리하여, 신뢰도가 날로 상승해왔음을 알려드립니다. 필자는 이와 관련, 구글 영문번역 팀에 노벨상을 수여했으면 좋겠다는 개인적인 의견을 피력한 바 있습니다.
지금은 인공지능 시대로, 데이터 주권(主權)시대가 도래 했습니다. 브레이크뉴스는 한국어로 생산된 뉴스-정보가 대량으로 구축(構築)돼 있는 강자(强者) 매체입니다. 최다 뉴스-정보의 댐 구축을 위해 노력하고 있습니다. 뉴스-정보의 보고(寶庫)를 지향합니다. 다양한 시각(視覺)의 기사-정보들이 존재합니다. 이런 많은 정보들은 종국적으로 인간중심 사회를 만들어가는 데 활용되리라 예상합니다, 한국인의 한 사람으로서 ‘글로벌, 한국사람 중심사회’로 나아가는 데 기여했으면 합니다.
본지는 뉴스-정보 데이터의 '거대한 댐'을 만들어 가고 있는 인터넷 언론 매체입니다. 이를 통해 우리나라의 데이터 주권(主權)을 강하게 만드는데 기여하겠습니다. 시간이 흐를수록 강해지는 동아시아 뉴스-정보 데이터의 거대한 댐이 되도록, 쉼 없이 노력을 경주 하겠습니다. 본지를 늘 애독해주셔서 감사합니다. moonilsuk@naver.com

This paper marks the fifth anniversary of publishing English translations of articles and information using Google Translate, a first attempt at publishing English translations.
The author, a reporter for Break News, wrote on September 28, 2020, "[Notice] This paper's articles and articles will be published in English using Google Translate!" In the article titled "In 2019, when I encountered English news articles translated by Google Translate, there were some awkward parts. However, we have recently discovered that Google Translate's accuracy has significantly improved over the past year. In the era of COVID-19, the world is moving towards becoming one. In this era, we believe Google Translate is playing a key role in international communication, overcoming language barriers. With this in mind, Break News will begin publishing English articles translated by Google Translate at the end of major articles." The article continued, "This initiative by Break News is certainly a novel endeavor. Some translation errors may occur. However, we would like to inform you that it is an attempt to share the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) developed in modern society. The diverse languages used by various peoples in the international community are now being translated and communicated through AI. Anyone can use Google Translate to convert Korean articles into English and read them."
He continued, "We would like to inform you that this newspaper is attempting to publish Korean articles translated into English using Google Translate at the end of each article for the convenience of our readers. This is the first attempt (Korean-to-English translation) by a Korean media outlet. As Google Translate's translation function is not perfect, we understand that there may be some mistranslations. As we are not a professional English-language publication, we ask that you read with this in mind. Google Translate is a remarkable achievement. Humanity is moving toward a new future." Over the past five years, since then, this newspaper (Break News) has consistently appended the following explanation to its articles: "*The following is [the full text] of the English article translated by 'Google Translate'. 'Google Translate' is working hard to improve understanding. It is assumed that there may be errors in the English translation." Furthermore, we have continued to include the Google English-translated articles without interruption.
As of September 28, 2025, the total number of news and information items included in Break News is 1,123,496 (as of 10:00 AM on September 27, 2025). Since September 28, 2020, we have attached translations (365,359 articles) from Google Translate to the back of all news articles over the past five years. This means that a total of 1,488,855 articles (including a very small number of articles) have been published in this newspaper (as of 10:00 AM on September 27, 2025). This brings the total number of original news articles published in this newspaper to approximately 1.49 million. We hereby acknowledge that the Google English translations were intended to aid comprehension (and are not fully complete).
With the advent of the age of artificial intelligence (AI), Google's efforts have gradually reduced errors in English translations of articles and information translated using Google Translate. Consequently, their reliability has steadily increased. In this regard, I have expressed my personal opinion that the Google English translation team should be awarded a Nobel Prize.
We are now in the age of artificial intelligence and data sovereignty. Break News is a powerful media outlet with a vast collection of news and information produced in Korean. We are striving to build the largest dam of news and information. We aim to be a treasure trove of news and information. Articles and information from diverse perspectives exist. We anticipate that this vast amount of information will ultimately be utilized to create a human-centered society. As a Korean, I hope to contribute to the advancement of a "Korean-centered society."
This newspaper is an online media outlet building a "huge dam" of news and information data. Through this, we will contribute to strengthening Korea's data sovereignty.
