필자는 기독교복음선교회(세칭JMS) 정명석 목사 성폭행 혐의 재판 과정에서 “나는 정명석을 만나러 간다”라는 저서를 발간(2023.9.25) 했었다. 기자-작가로서 이 사건의 증거 부족이나 조작 사실을 보도, 책으로 출간했었다.

필자는 이 사건을 다루면서 “한국 재판부의 후진성을 전 세계에 드러내는 것”이라고 주장한 바 있다. 첫째는 JMS 정명석 목사가 1만명을 성폭행했다는 주장들이 공론화됐는데, 이는 허구의 사실(주장)들이라는 게 필자의 일관된 주장이었다. 둘째는 JMS 정명석 목사의 성폭행 혐의의 증거가 증거위주가 아닌 조작사실을 법원이 그대로 인용(認容)했다는 것이었다. 음성 전문가들이 제출된 이 사건의 증거로 제출된 내용이 조작됐다는, 음성파일 관련증거를 법원에 제출했어도 법원측은 이를 받아들이지 않고 묵살했다. 셋째는 사람이 사람을 죽인 살인 사건 등의 중범죄 사건도 아닌 사건인데, 17년이라는 중형에 처해졌다는 것을 비판했었다. 대한민국 헌법은 모든 재판에서 철저한 증거위주의 재판을 하도록 명시하고 있다. 그러나 JMS 정명석 목사의 사건은 왜인지 이 원칙을 이탈했다는 게 필자의 주장이었다.

그런데 최근들어 이재명 정권에서 이 사건의 재수사가 하명(下命)됐다. 놀랄만한 변화의 시작이다.
정경시사 Focous는 10월16일자 “정명석 목사 사건, 대통령실에서 재수사 지시, 현재 대전지검에 진정사건으로 배당” 제목의 기사를 내보냈다. 이 기사에서 “지난 9월 9일 용산 대통령실 앞에서 2023년 3월에 ‘나는 신이다’ 방송을 제작한 네플릭스를 규탄과 지난 8월 15일 2차로 공개한 ‘나는 생존자다’ 방송을 규탄하는 내용의 집회를 가진바 있다.”고 소개하고 “대통령실은 이 호소를 듣고 대검에 재수사 지시를 했고 대검에서는 다시 대전지검에 지시했다”고 보도했다.
이어 “대전 지검이 류재복 작가에게 '재수사를 하겠으니 보완요청을 바란다“는 서류를 발송하자 류재복 작가는 민원인 자격으로 지난 9월 25일 대전지검에 재수사요청 서류를 직접 담당 수사관에게 제출했다. 이후 10월 1일, 대전지검은 이 재수사 사건을 2025 진정 660호로 대전지검 여성아동범죄수사부에 진정사건으로 배당했다”고 덧붙였다.
이완 관련, 유재복 작가는 지난 9월 9일 용산 대통령실 앞 시위에서 ”2023년 3월, 넥플릭스가 상영한 ‘나는 신이다’ 방송 중 기독교복음선교회(JMS) 부분은 모두가 조작, 편집, 짜깁기 방송으로 오직 돈만을 노리고 상업적으로 영상미를 위주로 한 선정적이고 자극적인 방송으로 이러한 왜곡된 방송의 여론으로 그 교단의 대표인 정명석 목사는 1심에서 상상을 할 수 없는 징역 23년, 2심에서는 6년이 감형된 17년의 중형을 받고 현재 대전교도소에서 복역중“이라는 사실을 알렸었다.
류재복 작가는 필자와 가진 통화에서 “이제 정명석 총재의 억울한 사건은 끝이 보인다“면서 ”이제부터는 방송과 신문 등 모든 언론들이 그동안 정 총재 사건에 대한 보도가 왜곡된. 잘못된, 보도였음을 깨닫고 확정된 재수사사건을 정의롭게 보도를 해주기 바란다“고 강조했다.

류재복 작가는 필자처럼 JMS 정명석 목사 사건을 지속적으로 추적-보도해온 기자-작가였다. 그는 ”이제 기독교복음선교회는 모두가 한 마음이 되어 재수사와 그리고 이어질 재심(再審)을 통해 정명석 총재가 하루빨리 무죄로 석방이 되도록 함께 나가야 할 것“이라고 호소했다.
