브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 현대자동차가 인도네시아 브카시에 지역주민 주도형 플라스틱 자원순환시설을 구축하고 지속가능한 자원순환 생태계 조성에 나섰다.
현대차는 16일(현지시간) 인도네시아 브카시에서 방현철 현대차 인도네시아 생산법인(HMMI) 법인장, 데디 물야디 (Dedi Mulyadi) 인도네시아 서자바주 주지사, 마틸다 앙투아네트 부이산(Mathilda Antoinette Buisan) 굿네이버스 인도네시아 대표 등 주요 관계자들이 참석한 가운데 ‘지역주민 주도형 플라스틱 자원순환시설 개소식’을 진행했다고 밝혔다.
인도네시아는 급격한 도시화와 인구 증가로 인해 세계 3위 수준의 플라스틱 폐기물을 배출하고 있으며, 이에 따른 환경 및 사회적 문제가 심화되고 있다.
2022년 생산공장이 위치한 인도네시아 브카시에 리사이클링 센터를 설립한 현대차는 올해 플라스틱 자원순환시설까지 추가 개소하며 플라스틱 폐기물 문제 해결에 적극 나선다.
자원순환시설은 지역주민 대상 환경 교육, 굿즈 제작 등 기존 리사이클링 센터의 기능뿐 아니라, △폐플라스틱 수거 △세척 및 분쇄 △재생원료 생산 및 판매 등 다양한 역할을 수행한다.
특히, 지역주민협동조합이 시설 운영 전 과정에 참여하며, 발생한 수익금은 다시 자원순환시설을 위해 쓰이게 된다. 이를 통해 장기적인 운영 안정성을 확보해 나갈 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
현대차는 굿네이버스와 협력해 △지역주민협동조합 구성 △인력 채용 및 운영 교육 등을 담당하고, 현지 폐플라스틱 원료 공급 기관과 함께 지역주민을 대상으로 체계화된 리사이클링 교육도 실시할 계획이다.
현대차 관계자는 “이번 자원순환시설 구축은 단순한 폐기물 수거 활동에서 벗어나 폐기물을 원료화해 순환 구조를 만들었다는 점에서 의미가 있다”며 “현대차는 앞으로도 다양한 협력체계를 기반으로 지역사회 환경 문제를 개선하기 위해 노력해 나갈 것이다”고 말했다.
