국가정보원은 지난 10월1일 “국정원, ‘해외 마약운반 연루’ 주의 당부” 제목의 보도자료를 발표했다.
국가정보원 국제범죄정보센터(TCICㆍTransnational Crime Information Center)는 “최근 한국인들이 해외 마약조직원에 속아 태국에서 유럽으로 대마를 운반하다 유럽 현지 공항에서 적발되는 사례가 잇따르고 있다”며, 각별한 주의를 당부했다.

국정원은 이 자료에서 “국정원은 동남아에 거점을 둔 해당 마약조직이 태국에서 유럽으로 마약을 밀반입하는 데 활용할 목적으로 한국인 여행객을 유인하고 있다고 밝혔다. 한국인의 경우 동남아와 유럽 간 출입국이 비교적 용이하기 때문으로 분석된다.”면서 “현재까지 확인된 피해자만 14명에 달하며, 이들이 운반하다 적발된 마약은 총 410kg을 넘어선 것으로 파악됐다.”고 알렸다.
또한 “피해자들은 마약조직원들의 ‘고액 아르바이트 제안’이나 ‘연인의 부탁’과 같은 거짓말에 속아 태국으로 유인된 후, 단순한 ‘해외 물품 전달’로 알고 가방을 유럽으로 운반하다 적발됐다. 해당 가방에는 대량의 대마가 은닉되어 있었다”고 덧붙였다.
국정원은 “온라인에서 알게 된 사람에게 해외 출국 요구를 받을 경우 각별히 주의해야 한다”며, 특히 속아서 운반했더라도 해당국에서의 사법처리는 불가피한 만큼 “해외에서 물품 운반을 제안 으면 반드시 거절해야 한다”고 강조했다.

- 이후 대마 은닉 가방을 태국에서 영국으로 운반하던 중 공항세관에 적발, 마약 밀반입 혐의로 징역형을 선고 받음.

- 피해자는 태국 거주 베트남人 남성으로부터 항공운송 아르바이트를 제안받고 그 대가로 항공권ㆍ호텔 투숙 등 향응 수수.
- 피해자는 대마 은닉 가방을 태국에서 영국으로 운반하던 중 공항세관에 적발, 마약 밀반입 혐의로 징역형을 선고 받음.
