브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정동영 통일부 장관이 오는 29일부터 열리는 아시아태평양경제협력체(APEC) 정상회의를 앞두고 북미 정상 간 회동을 촉구했다.
정 장관은 24일 정부서울청사에서 기자들과 만나 “트럼프 미국 대통령과 김정은 북한 국무위원장이 이번 기회를 놓쳐서는 안 된다”며 “1%의 가능성이라도 살려야 한다”고 밝혔다.
정 장관은 “트럼프 대통령 임기가 4년 중 1년 가까이 지났고, 다시 방한까지 이어지려면 상당한 시간이 필요하다”며 “북한으로서도 이번 기회를 반드시 잡아야 한다”고 강조했다. 이어 “트럼프 대통령은 72년 된 전쟁을 끝낼 수 있는 기회라고 생각하고 있다”며 “양측이 한반도 평화라는 역사적 과제 앞에서 결단해야 한다”고 했다.
이어 그는 “2019년 트럼프 대통령이 방일 중 트위터로 회동을 제안해 판문점에서 김 위원장을 만난 사례처럼, 이번에도 충분히 가능성이 있다”고 말했다.
