브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 24일(현지시간) 한국을 포함한 아시아 순방길에 오르며 김정은 북한 국무위원장과의 회동 의사를 밝혔다. 북한을 “일종의 핵 보유국(nuclear power)”으로 언급한 발언까지 내놓아 외교적 파장이 예상된다.
로이터 통신에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 밤 말레이시아 쿠알라룸푸르로 향하는 전용기 에어포스원에서 “DMZ(비무장지대)에서 김정은과 만날 계획이 있느냐”는 기자들의 질문에 “그가 연락한다면 그렇게 할 것이다”고 말했다.
이어 “제가 한국에 간다는 사실을 인터넷에 올렸다. 만약 만나고 싶다면 저는 분명히 열려 있다”며 “그들은 많은 핵무기를 갖고 있지만, 전화 서비스는 별로 없다”고 덧붙였다.

트럼프 대통령은 재임 중이던 2019년 6월에도 일본 G20 정상회의 직후 트위터를 통해 김 위원장에게 회동을 제안했고, 불과 32시간 만에 판문점에서 깜짝 북미 정상회담을 성사시킨 바 있다.
