브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김건희 여사가 이른바 ‘건진법사’로 불리는 전성배 씨로부터 두 차례 가방 선물을 받은 사실을 인정했다. 다만 그라프(Graff) 목걸이를 받았다는 특검의 주장과 통일교를 통한 대가성 금품 수수 의혹에 대해서는 전면 부인했다.
김 여사 법률대리인단 채명성·최지우·유정화 변호사는 5일 오전 성명을 통해 “공소사실 중 전 씨로부터 두 차례 가방 선물을 받은 사실은 인정한다”고 밝혔다.
법률대리인단은 “국민 여러분께 심려를 끼쳐드린 점에 대해 깊이 사과드린다”며 “공직자 배우자로서 신중히 처신했어야 했음에도 부적절한 행동으로 실망을 드린 점을 반성하고 있다”고 전했다.
그러면서 “통일교와의 공모나 어떤 형태의 청탁·대가 관계도 존재하지 않았음을 분명히 밝힌다”며 “그라프 목걸이 수수 사실은 명백히 부인한다”고 강조했다.
김 여사 측은 또한 “가방은 처음에 거절했으나 전 씨의 설득에 못 이겨 받았고, 사용한 적 없이 이미 전 씨에게 모두 반환했다”며 특검이 주장한 ‘사용감이 있었다’는 입장을 부인했다.
법률대리인단은 “특검이 주장하는 청탁은 김 여사에게 전달되지 않았고 대통령의 구체적 직무 권한과도 무관하다”며 “막연한 기대나 호의 수준의 언급에 불과하다”고 주장했다. 이어 “김 여사에게 적용된 특정범죄가중처벌법상 알선수재 혐의는 법리적으로 다툴 것”이라고 밝혔다.
또한 “핵심 증인인 전 씨의 진술은 수사 초기부터 법정에 이르기까지 수차례 번복됐다”며 “특검은 전 씨가 변호인 참여를 요청했음에도 이를 배제한 채 장시간 면담과 조사를 진행했고, 수사보고조차 남기지 않았다”고 비판했다.
김 여사 측은 “공직자 배우자로서의 무게와 국민의 기대가 얼마나 엄중한지를 절실히 깨닫고 국민의 꾸지람을 겸허히 받아들인다”며 “모든 절차에 성실히 임하고 한 점의 거짓 없이 진실을 밝히겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 김 여사는 전 씨와 공모해 2022년 4~7월 윤영호 당시 통일교 세계본부장으로부터 통일교 지원 관련 청탁을 받고 약 8000만 원 상당의 금품을 받은 혐의를 받고 있다.
전 씨는 지난달 첫 공판에서 김 여사에게 건넨 금품이 통일교 측 자금이었다고 진술했고, 이어 샤넬 가방과 구두, 그라프 다이아몬드 목걸이를 특검에 제출했다. 특검은 확보한 물품의 일련번호가 기존 조사와 일치하며 사용감도 있었다고 밝혔다.
김 여사는 지난 3일 건강 악화 등을 이유로 들며 법원에 보석을 청구한 상태다.
