부영그룹이 인수한 창신대학교가 한국대학사회봉사협의회(이하 대사협)가 주관하는 ‘2025년 동계 대학 자체개발 해외봉사 프로그램’에 선정됐다. 대사협 소속 264개 대학을 대상으로 진행된 이번 공모에서 단 35개 대학만이 이름을 올렸다는 점은 지방 사립대학인 창신대로서는 의미 있는 성과로 평가된다.
이번 프로그램은 대학생들의 글로벌 역량을 키우고 사회에 기여함과 동시에 국내외 기관과의 네트워크를 강화하기 위해 마련됐으며, 창신대는 겨울 방학 기간 중 봉사단을 스리랑카 콜롬보로 파견한다. 봉사 활동은 스리랑카 적십자사(Sri Lanka Red Cross Society)와 협업하여 진행되며, 현지 청소년 80여 명을 대상으로 지역 특성과 학생 전공을 반영한 프로그램을 운영할 예정이다.
창신대 봉사단은 현지에서 코코넛을 ‘업사이클링’해 경제 자립을 돕는 프로그램을 비롯해 건강 검진과 위생 교육 등 전공 기반 실습을 겸한 공공 서비스를 펼칠 계획이다. 이와 함께 해변 정화 활동과 위생용품 제작 및 나눔 프로그램을 운영하며, K-POP 댄스 체험 등 문화 교류 프로그램도 마련해 현지 청소년과 자연스럽게 소통할 수 있는 시간을 준비하고 있다. 단순 봉사 활동을 넘어 환경, 보건, 문화 등 다양한 분야를 결합해 지속가능성을 추구하는 것이 이번 활동의 중요한 특징으로 꼽힌다.
창신대학교 사회봉사센터 관계자는 “창신대는 건학이념인 ‘성실과 봉사’를 중심으로 지역사회와 함께 성장하는 사회공헌 활동을 이어오고 있다”며 “스리랑카에서 진행할 봉사활동을 통해 학생들이 나눔의 가치를 배우고 글로벌 시민으로 성장하는 데 의미 있는 경험이 될 것”이라고 설명했다.
창신대는 최근 국내외 여러 기관 및 기업과의 협력에도 속도를 내고 있다. 카자흐스탄 알마티시 청년정책국과 함께 청년정책 분야 교류를 추진하고 있으며, 오뚜기SF, 풀무원푸드앤컬처 등 국내 식품·푸드서비스 기업과도 협약을 체결해 교육 현장과 산업 현장이 맞닿는 실질적인 프로그램을 마련하고 있다. 아울러 법무부와 보건복지부가 공동으로 추진 중인 ‘외국인 요양보호사 양성대학’ 사업에서는 외국인 유학생이 국내 요양보호사 자격시험에 합격하는 성과를 거두며, 대학이 확보한 글로벌 교육 인프라가 실제 성과로 이어지고 있음을 보여줬다.
창신대가 이와 같은 성과를 이어가고 있는 배경에는 부영그룹의 지속적인 지원이 자리하고 있다. 부영그룹은 2019년 이중근 회장의 교육에 대한 신념을 바탕으로 창신대를 인수한 이후, 신입생에게 1년 전액 장학금을 제공하는 등 적극적인 교육 투자를 이어왔다. 간호학과의 경우 등록금 반액을 지원하여 학비 부담을 줄였으며, 그룹이 보유한 레저 사업장과 연계한 실습학기제·인턴십 제도인 ‘부영트랙’을 운영해 학생들이 실제 산업 현장에서 경험을 쌓을 수 있도록 돕고 있다.
이 같은 전폭적 지원은 창신대가 4년 연속 신입생 모집률 100%를 달성하고, 부·울·경 4년제 사립대학 가운데 취업률 1위를 기록하는 성과로 이어졌다. 저출산과 지역 소멸로 대학 구조조정이 가속화되는 현실 속에서 창신대가 산업·CSR·국제협력 기반의 성장 모델을 만들어가고 있다는 점은 더욱 주목되는 부분이다.
전문가들은 이 같은 움직임을 지역 대학이 생존과 성장을 위해 산업계, 공공기관, 해외 네트워크 등과 긴밀히 협력하며 ‘지역 인재와 글로벌 인재를 동시에 키우는 이중 트랙 전략’으로 해석한다. 대학이 사회적 역할을 확장하고 글로벌 교육의 가능성을 실천하는 흐름 속에서, 창신대가 이번 스리랑카 해외봉사 프로그램을 통해 또 한 번 의미 있는 발걸음을 내딛게 될 것으로 전망된다.

Changshin University, which was acquired by the Booyoung Group, has been selected for the '2025 Winter University Self-Developed Overseas Volunteer Program,' hosted by the Korean Association for Social Service Activities in Higher Education (KASSA). Only 35 universities out of the 264 KASSA member universities were selected in this competition, marking a significant achievement for Changshin University, a local private institution.
Program Details and Objectives
This program was established to enhance students' global competency, contribute to society, and strengthen networking with domestic and international organizations. Changshin University will dispatch its volunteer corps to Colombo, Sri Lanka, during the winter break.
Collaboration: The volunteering activities will be conducted in partnership with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society.
Participants: The program targets approximately 80 local youths.

Sustainable Volunteer Activities in Sri Lanka
The Changshin University volunteer corps plans to carry out major-based practical public services, including a program to help economic self-reliance by 'upcycling' coconuts, health check-ups, and hygiene education.
Environmental & Health: They will conduct beach cleanup activities and run programs for making and distributing hygiene products.
Cultural Exchange: Cultural exchange activities, such as K-POP dance experiences, are also prepared to facilitate natural communication with local youths.

Growing Through Collaboration and Booyoung's Support
Changshin University has recently accelerated cooperation with various domestic and international institutions and companies.
International: It is pursuing youth policy exchanges with the Youth Policy Bureau of Almaty City, Kazakhstan.
Industry: The university has signed agreements with domestic food and foodservice companies like Ottogi SF and Pulmuone Food & Culture to establish practical programs connecting educational and industrial fields.
Government Program Success: Furthermore, in the 'Foreign Caregiver Training University' project jointly promoted by the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, foreign students successfully passed the national caregiver licensing exam, demonstrating that the university's secured global education infrastructure is leading to tangible results.
The background to Changshin University's continued success is the continuous support from the Booyoung Group.
Booyoung's Investment: Since acquiring Changshin University in 2019 based on Chairman Lee Joong-keun's belief in education, the Booyoung Group has maintained active educational investment, including providing a full scholarship for the first year to all new students.
Financial Support & Internships: Nursing students receive half of their tuition covered to alleviate the financial burden. The 'Booyoung Track'—a practical semester/internship system linked to the Group's leisure businesses—is operated to help students gain real-world industry experience.

In the face of accelerating university restructuring due to low birth rates and regional decline, the fact that Changshin University is creating a growth model based on industry, CSR, and international cooperation is particularly noteworthy.
