【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=경상북도교육청(교육감 임종식)이 12일 울릉군민회관에서 ‘경상북도교육청 독도교육원’ 건립과 관련한 주민설명회를 개최했다.
이번 설명회는 사업 추진 현황과 향후 계획을 공유하고, 지역 주민들의 다양한 의견을 듣기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 행사에는 남진복 경북도의회 의원을 비롯해 울릉군 주민, 설계 관계자, 경북교육청 관계자 등 50여 명이 참석해 뜨거운 관심을 보였다.
독도교육원은 울릉군 울릉읍 사동리 238번지 일원 11필지에 들어설 예정이며, 부지 면적 7,651㎡, 연면적 4,342㎡, 지상 3층 규모의 교육·연구시설로 지어진다. 학생과 교직원이 함께 체험, 숙박, 연구, 교육을 할 수 있는 복합공간으로, 울릉도의 지역 특성과 독도의 상징성을 동시에 담아낼 계획이다.
경북교육청은 2023년 기본계획 수립을 시작으로 2024년에는 재정투자심사와 공유재산 심의를 모두 마쳤다. 이어 2025년 3월 실시설계에 들어가 2026년 4월 착공, 2028년 1월 준공과 3월 개관을 목표로 속도를 내고 있다.
임종식 교육감은 “독도교육원은 단순한 건물을 넘어서 대한민국 영토교육의 상징적 거점으로 자리매김할 것”이라며 “지역의 의견을 충분히 반영해 울릉군과 함께 성장하는 교육시설로 완성하겠다”고 강조했다.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education began developing a basic plan in 2023 and completed both the financial investment review and public property review in 2024. The project is accelerating, with detailed design to begin in March 2025, construction to begin in April 2026, and completion and opening in March 2028.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik emphasized, "The Dokdo Education Center will go beyond being a simple building and establish itself as a symbolic hub for territorial education in the Republic of Korea. We will fully reflect local feedback and complete it as an educational facility that grows alongside Ulleung County."
