김대중 대통령의 노벨평화상 수상 25주년을 기념하고, 그가 평생 역설한 민주주의·인권·평화의 정신을 시민과 함께 계승하기 위한 「제10회 김대중평화마라톤대회」가 오는 11월 23일 오전 9시 상암 월드컵 평화의공원 일원에서 열린다.
평화와 환경을 잇는 시민 참여형 축제

올해로 10회째를 맞은 이번 대회는 ‘다음 세대를 위한 평화, 함께하는 탄소중립 실천’을 부제로 내걸었다. 단순한 스포츠 행사를 넘어 김대중 대통령의 철학과 정책 비전을 시민의 일상 속 실천으로 승화시키는 데 초점을 맞췄다. 주최/주관: 김대중재단 / 김대중평화마라톤대회조직위원회후원: 서울특별시, 마포구청, KSEF(한국중소자영업총연합회), KCCF(한국탄소중립실천국민운동본부) 등.
대회 취지에는 2000년 6·15 남북공동선언을 통해 '평화와 협력의 시대'를 연 김대중 대통령의 정신을 이어받아, 한반도 평화와 지구의 지속가능성을 시민이 함께 달리며 실천한다는 의미를 담았다. 김대중재단 관계자는 "이번 대회는 노벨평화상 수상 25주년 기념과 동시에, 기후위기 시대에 평화와 환경의 가치를 함께 실천하는 시민운동으로 발전하기를 바란다"며, "시민이 함께 달리는 이 마라톤이 한반도 평화와 지구의 지속가능성을 향한 희망의 릴레이가 되길 기대한다"고 전했다.
탄소중립 실천 마라톤...각계 주요 인사 대거 참석
이번 마라톤은 하프코스, 10km, 5km, 가족런(5km) 등 남녀노소 누구나 참여할 수 있는 다채로운 코스로 구성됐다. 특히, 행사 전 과정에서 1회용품 사용을 지양하고 친환경 소재를 적극 활용하는 등 탄소중립의 의미를 실천하는 방향으로 운영될 예정이다.
대회는 1부 개막식과 2부 축하공연으로 진행된다.
1부 개막식에서는 개회 선언, 대회사, 환영사, 축사, 출발 세리머니가 있다. 최충민 대회진행위원장의 사회로 권노갑 대회장의 대회사와 오호석 조직위원장의 환영사가 있다. 2부에는 축하공연, 시상식, 경품 추첨, 폐회로 진행된다. 가수 피터팬 사회로 진행되는 개막식에는 권노갑 대회장(김대중재단 이사장)을 비롯해 문희상 김대중재단 상임부이사장(전 국회의장), 백학순 김대중학술원 원장, 김경수 대통령직속 지방시대위원회 위원장, 박강수 마포구청장 등 각계 주요 인사들이 참석해 자리를 빛낼 예정. 이들은 김대중 대통령의 업적을 기리고, 한반도 평화와 탄소중립 실천의 가치를 강조하는 축사를 전할 것으로 보인다.

The "10th Kim Dae-jung Peace Marathon" will be held at 9:00 AM on November 23rd at the Sangam World Cup Peace Park to commemorate the 25th anniversary of President Kim Dae-jung's Nobel Peace Prize and to uphold the spirit of democracy, human rights, and peace he championed throughout his life.
A Citizen Participatory Festival Linking Peace and the Environment
This year's marathon, now in its 10th year, is subtitled "Peace for the Next Generation, Carbon Neutrality Together." Beyond being a mere sports event, the focus is on translating President Kim Dae-jung's philosophy and policy vision into everyday practice for citizens. The purpose of the race is to carry on the spirit of President Kim Dae-jung, who ushered in an "Era of Peace and Cooperation" through the June 15, 2000, Inter-Korean Joint Declaration, and to encourage citizens to run together for peace on the Korean Peninsula and sustainability on the planet. A Kim Dae-jung Foundation official stated, "This race commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Nobel Peace Prize and hopes to develop into a civic movement that promotes the values of peace and the environment in the era of climate crisis. We hope this marathon, run by citizens, will become a relay of hope for peace on the Korean Peninsula and sustainability on the planet."
Carbon Neutrality Marathon... Key Figures from All Aspects Participate
This marathon features a variety of courses, including a half marathon, a 10km, a 5km, and a family run (5km), making it accessible to all ages and genders. The event will be run in a way that promotes carbon neutrality, with the goal of minimizing the use of disposable items and actively utilizing eco-friendly materials throughout the event.
The race will consist of two parts: the opening ceremony and a congratulatory performance. The first part of the opening ceremony will feature the opening declaration, opening remarks, welcome remarks, congratulatory remarks, and the start ceremony. Choi Chung-min, the chair of the event management committee, will host the opening remarks by Kwon No-gap, the event chairman, and a welcoming address by Oh Ho-seok, the organizing committee chairman.
The second part will feature a congratulatory performance, an awards ceremony, a prize drawing, and a closing ceremony. The opening ceremony, hosted by singer Peter Pan, will be graced by prominent figures from various fields, including Kwon No-gap (Chairman of the Kim Dae-jung Foundation), Moon Hee-sang, Executive Vice Chairman of the Kim Dae-jung Foundation (former Speaker of the National Assembly), Baek Hak-soon, President of the Kim Dae-jung Academy, Kim Kyung-soo, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Local Government, and Park Kang-soo, Mayor of Mapo-gu. They are expected to deliver congratulatory remarks honoring President Kim Dae-jung's achievements and emphasizing the value of peace on the Korean Peninsula and achieving carbon neutrality.
National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik and Democratic Party of Korea leader Chung Chung-rae, who were unable to attend, delivered congratulatory remarks instead. The 10th Kim Dae-jung Peace Marathon is open to all citizens, with no specific eligibility requirements.
