대구시교육청은 25일 오전 10시, 동구 신암동에 위치한 대구동부초등학교 본관동 배움마루 2층에서 ‘그린스마트스쿨 대구동부초 개축 임대형 민간투자사업’ 준공식을 개최한다고 밝혔다.
동부초는 1974년 개교 이후 50여 년간 지역사회와 함께 성장해 온 도심 학교다. 이번 사업으로 총 122억 원이 투입되어 연면적 4,398㎡, 지상 3층 규모의 새로운 교육공간이 완성됐다. 공사는 2023년 2월에 시작해 올해 8월까지 약 1년 6개월간 이어졌다.
본관동 개축 과정에서는 기존 건물을 철거하는 동시에 신축 작업이 이뤄졌다. 학교 전체 동선도 후관동, 양궁장, 강당동 등 주변 시설과의 조화를 고려해 새롭게 설계됐다. 여름철 강한 햇빛을 차단하는 외부 차양과 건물 하부 통풍 구조를 적용해 실내외 환경도 한층 쾌적해졌다.
정문에서 교실로 이어지는 ‘웰컴스테어’는 기존 지형을 활용해 조성한 진입 공간으로, 학생들의 안전한 등교 길을 확보하는 데 중점을 뒀다.
학교 측은 다양한 학습 공간이 자연스럽게 이어지도록 ‘연계형 소통 구조’로 공간을 구성했다. 배움마루, 라온도서관, 소통광장 등 주요 시설은 소통계단으로 상하층을 연결해 이동의 편의성도 높였다.
또 폴딩도어와 놀이데크를 활용한 확장형 학습실을 마련해, 수업 형태와 활동 종류에 따라 공간을 자유롭게 변형해 사용할 수 있도록 설계했다. 야외 열린공간에는 학생들이 자유롭게 발표할 수 있는 야외무대와 휴게마당도 설치했다.
강은희 대구시교육감은 “새로운 공간에서 학생들이 더 큰 꿈을 키우며 마음껏 성장하길 기대한다”며 “앞으로도 지역과 함께하는 학교 조성과 미래 교육 기반 마련에 힘쓰겠다”고 밝혔다.

The outdoor open space also features an outdoor stage and a lounge area where students can freely present their ideas.
Daegu Metropolitan Superintendent of Education Kang Eun-hee stated, "I hope that students will be able to pursue greater dreams and grow to their fullest potential in this new space. We will continue to strive to create a school that engages with the community and lay the foundation for future education."
