【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대경대학교 연기예술과 김정근 교수가 연출한 2인극 ‘하지의 밤’이 제25회 월드2인극 페스티벌에서 최우수작품상과 연기상(고훈목)을 동시에 거머쥐었다. 이번 페스티벌은 이달 2일부터 23일까지 서울 대학로 일대 소극장에서 열렸다.
올해 페스티벌에는 공식 참가작 12편을 비롯해 기획 초청작 4편, 해외 초청작 2편, 특별 참가작 2편, 시민 참가작 28편, 대학 참가작 52편 등 모두 100편이 무대에 올랐다. ‘하지의 밤’은 오가와 미레이 작가의 신작으로, 박순주 작가가 번역을 맡아 이번 페스티벌에서 첫선을 보였다.
작품은 사랑을 한 번도 경험하지 못한 여자 로즈마리(임영란)와 조건 없이 사랑을 주는 남자 엘더(고훈목)가 등장한다. 두 주인공이 상실과 외로움을 딛고 다시 만나 서로의 상처를 보듬고 치유하는 여정을 그린다. 무대는 약초원을 배경으로, 프로젝션 맵핑을 통해 시각적 아름다움도 더했다.
연극평론가 김건표 교수는 “‘하지의 밤’은 배우들의 침묵과 정지된 순간들 사이에 녹아있는 감정선이 돋보인다”며 “배우들의 밀도 높은 연기가 작품의 완성도를 높였다”고 평했다.
연출을 맡은 김정근 교수는 공연예술제작소 비상 대표로 활동 중이며, 이미 밀양공연예술축제 젊은연출가전 최우수작품상, 포항바다국제연극제 금상 등 여러 상을 수상한 바 있다. 현재는 젊은연극제 집행위원장과 월간 한국연극 편집위원으로도 활동하고 있다.
월드2인극 페스티벌은 2000년 1회 개최 이후 올해까지 누적 942편의 공연이 무대에 올랐다. 조직위원회는 내년 26회 페스티벌에서는 1,000편의 2인극 무대 달성을 목표로 하고 있다. 페스티벌은 2인극 페스티벌 조직위원회가 주최하고 ITI 국제극예술협회 한국본부가 주관한다.

The two-person play "Summer Solstice Night," directed by Professor Kim Jeong-geun of the Department of Performing Arts at Daekyung University, won both the Best Play Award and the Best Acting Award (Ko Hoon-mok) at the 25th World Two-Person Play Festival. "Summer Solstice Night" is a new work by Mirei Ogawa, translated by Park Soon-joo and debuting at the festival.
The play follows Rosemary (Im Young-ran), a woman who has never experienced love, and Elder (Ko Hoon-mok), a man who offers unconditional love. The two protagonists journey together, overcoming loss and loneliness, to reunite, embrace each other's wounds, and heal each other's wounds. The stage was set against a medicinal herb garden, and projection mapping enhanced the visual beauty.
Professor Kim Geon-pyo, a theater critic, commented, "'Summer Night' stands out for the emotional lines that are woven between the actors' silences and still moments," and added, "The actors' dense performances enhanced the work's perfection."
Professor Kim Jeong-geun, who directed the festival, currently serves as the CEO of Bisang Performing Arts Production Center. He has already won numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the Miryang Performing Arts Festival's Young Directors Competition and the Gold Prize at the Pohang Sea International Theatre Festival. He currently serves as the Executive Committee Chairman of the Young Theatre Festival and an editorial board member of the Monthly Korean Theatre magazine.
Since its inception in 2000, the World Two-Person Play Festival has produced a cumulative 942 performances. The organizing committee aims to achieve 1,000 two-person plays by the 26th festival next year. The festival is hosted by the Two-Person Play Festival Organizing Committee and organized by the Korea Branch of the International Theatre Institute (ITI).
