숙명여자대학교 창의융합연구소(소장 박소진)는 지난 11월 19일(수), 교내 진리관에서 “민주주의의 창의적 실현”을 주제로 하반기 국내학술대회를 개최하고 민주주의 실천 경험과 학술적 논의를 융합하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다.

이번 학술대회는 숙명여대 구성원들을 중심으로, '민주주의의 실현 여정'이라는 공통 의제 아래 다양한 분야의 전문가와 숙명여대 학생들이 참여하여 지식과 경험을 나누는 장으로 마련됐다.
행사는 한동수 변호사의 기조 강연을 시작으로 신민기 AI 개발자, 이솔 피아니스트의 주제 발표가 이어졌으며, 연구소 공모전 최우수작 수상자들의 발표도 함께 진행되어 학술적 깊이와 실천적 경험을 동시에 조명했다.

한동수 변호사는 기조 강연에서 ‘K 민주주의의 헌법적 비전’을 제시하며, 실제 판결 사례를 중심으로 헌법이 지향하는 인권과 민주주의 가치를 어떻게 실현하고 발전시켜야 할지 심도 있는 통찰을 제공했다.
신민기 AI 개발자는 2024년 '카이스트 입틀막 사건'의 당사자로서 시민 참여의 중요성을 강조하고, 급속히 확대되는 AI 산업의 위험성에 대한 시민적 제어의 필요성을 역설했다.
이솔 피아니스트는 "민주주의는 시민적 책임을 기반으로 타인을 위함이 곧 나를 위함"이라는 믿음을 예술을 매개로 실천해온 자신의 경험을 공유하며 민주주의의 가치를 예술의 영역으로 확장했다.
연대와 이해의 과정으로서의 민주주의
이어진 공모전 수상작 발표에서는 민주주의를 삶 속에서 체화한 학생들의 생생한 목소리가 울려 퍼졌다.
권혜주(한국어문학부, 최우수) 학생은 계엄을 통한 경험을 나누며 민주주의란 "기꺼이 험난해지는 과정"임을 강조했다.
이수아(법학부, 최우수) 학생은 민주주의의 가치가 '연대'를 통해 가능함을 역설했다.
임현주(아동복지학과 박사과정, 최우수) 연구자는 민주주의란 서로를 이해시키는 과정이라는 점을 부각했다.
이외에도 우수작 수상자인 강세영(아동복지학과 박사과정)은 '어린이와 함께하는 민주주의 실천'을, 문주희(미디어학부)는 '우리의 삶은 민주주의 위에 지어졌다'라는 내용을 포스터 발표를 통해 공개했다.
박소진 창의융합연구소장은 "우리 사회가 민주주의를 지켜낼 수 있었던 것은 각자의 자리에서 성실하게 살아가는 시민들의 노력 덕분"이라며, 이번 학술대회가 "민주주의의 실현 여정을 함께 나누고 우리 사회가 지켜야 할 가치를 성찰하는 자리"가 되었음을 강조했다.

The Sookmyung Women's University Creative Convergence Research Institute (Director Park So-jin) held its second half domestic academic conference on "Creative Realization of Democracy" at the campus' Jinri Hall on Wednesday, November 19th. This meaningful event blended the practical experience of democracy with academic discussions.
"The Journey to Realize Democracy": A Meeting of Experts and Citizens' Experiences
This conference, centered around Sookmyung Women's University members, brought together experts from various fields and Sookmyung Women's University students to share knowledge and experience under the shared theme of "The Journey to Realize Democracy."
The event began with a keynote speech by attorney Han Dong-soo, followed by presentations by AI developer Shin Min-ki and pianist Lee Sol. Presentations by the winners of the Institute's contest also highlighted both academic depth and practical experience. In his keynote speech, attorney Han Dong-soo presented "A Constitutional Vision for K-Democracy." Drawing on actual court cases, he offered in-depth insights into how to realize and develop the human rights and democratic values enshrined in the Constitution.
AI developer Shin Min-ki, a participant in the 2024 "KAIST Silencing Incident," emphasized the importance of civic participation and the need for civic control over the risks of the rapidly expanding AI industry.
Pianist Lee Sol shared her experience practicing the belief that "democracy is based on civic responsibility, and what benefits others is also what benefits myself," through art, extending the value of democracy to the realm of art.
Democracy as a Process of Solidarity and Understanding
The following contest award presentation featured the vibrant voices of students who embodied democracy in their lives.
Kwon Hye-ju (Department of Korean Language and Literature, Top Honors) shared her experience with martial law and emphasized that democracy is "a process that is willing to face hardships." Lee Soo-ah (Law, Top Honors) emphasized that the value of democracy is possible through "solidarity."
Researcher Lim Hyeon-ju (Child Welfare, Doctoral Program, Top Honors) emphasized that democracy is a process of mutual understanding.
