이재명 대통령이 28일 미국 거주 중인 최고령 생존 독립유공자 이하전 애국지사 104세 생일을 맞아 "국민을 대표해 존경·감사를 전한다”며 축전·선물을 보내고 감사를 표했다.
이 대통령은 이날 페이스북에 ‘104세 독립운동가께서 부른 고향의 봄에 담긴 의미를 되새기며’ 제하 글을 통해 "평생을 조국 독립·자유·평화 통일을 위해 헌신한 지사님께 대한민국 국민을 대표해 존경·감사를 전한다”고 밝혔다.
그러면서 “귀가 어두우신데도 축전을 끝까지 경청하고 기쁜 마음에 고향의 봄을 불렀다 한다”며 “머나먼 미국 캘리포니아 땅에서 조국을 떠올리며 노래하는 지사님 모습을 생각하니 가슴이 뜨거워진다”고 했다.
이어 “직접 찾아뵙고 인사드려야 했는데 그러지 못해 한없이 송구한 마음”이라며 "(이 지사께선)1938년 비밀결사 모임 조직을 시작으로 일본 유학 시절 경찰에 체포돼 옥고를 치르고 광복 후 미국으로 건너가 흥사단·광복회에 봉사한 대한민국 독립 운동 산증인”이라고 했다.
