대통령실이 5일 정부와 글로벌 팹리스(반도체 설계) 기업 ARM이 반도체 설계 인력 양성 관련 MOU(양해각서)를 체결했다고 전했다.
김용범 정책실장은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 "이재명 대통령과 손정의 소프트뱅크그룹 회장 면담 계기로 산업통상부·르네하스 ARM 대표가 반도체·AI 산업 강화를 위한 MOU를 체결했다"고 밝혔다.
MOU에 따르면 산업통상부와 ARM은 향후 워킹 그룹을 구성해 가칭 'ARM 스쿨' 설립을 협의할 계획이다. ARM 스쿨은 반도체 설계 교육 특화 기관으로 정부·ARM은 글로벌 최고 수준 반도체 설계 인력 1400여명을 양성한다.
김 실장은 "(ARM 스쿨은) 한국 반도체 산업이 상대적으로 취약한 팹리스 등 시스템 반도체 분야 강화의 귀한 자산이 될 것"이라며 "산업통상부는 반도체 특성화 대학원 지정 등을 속도감 있게 추진 계획"이라고 전했다. 현재 광주과학기술원이 ARM 스쿨 우선 후보로 검토 중에 있다.
