특히 이번 행사는 대구 최초의 공공 반려동물지원센터인 ‘남구반려동물지원센터’ 개소식과 함께 진행돼 의미를 더했다. 남구는 새로 문을 연 지원센터를 통해 유기동물 보호 및 입양 지원, 반려동물 문화 교육 등 공공 기반의 다양한 서비스를 체계적으로 제공하며 긍정적인 평가를 받고 있다. 센터는 지역 반려동물 복지의 거점 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.
조재구 남구청장은 “이번 축제를 통해 주민들의 성숙한 시민 의식을 다시 한번 확인했다”며, “생명 존중과 책임 문화를 확산시키고, 반려인과 비반려인이 함께 공존하는 반려동물 친화 도시 조성을 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
