이번 내진보강 사업은 2018년 내진 성능평가를 시작으로 단계별로 진행됐다. 당시 북구청 본관과 동 행정복지센터 등 10곳에서 내진보강이 필요하다고 평가됐으며, 이 가운데 신축이 추진 중이거나 재검사를 통해 적합 판정을 받은 청사를 제외한 동 행정복지센터 5곳에 대해 보강공사가 이뤄졌다. 해당 공사는 2020년부터 2024년까지 순차적으로 완료됐다.
특히 가장 마지막까지 남아 있던 북구청 본관 내진보강공사도 지난주 최종적으로 마무리되면서 전체 사업이 끝났다.
북구청 본관은 민원인의 이용이 많고, 공사 규모가 큰 핵심 행정시설이라는 점에서 공사 기간 단축과 민원 불편 최소화가 주요 과제로 꼽혔다.
북구청은 공사 기간을 줄이고 예산을 절감하기 위해 신기술과 특허공법을 도입했다. 또, 내진보강 과정에서 외부 철골 구조물이 노출되지 않도록 설계해 청사 외관의 답답함을 없애고 기존 건축물의 미관도 유지했다는 점이 눈길을 끈다.
배광식 북구청장은 “재난 상황에서도 주민의 생명과 안전을 지키기 위한 필수적인 투자였다”며 “앞으로 주민들이 동 행정복지센터와 북구청 본관을 더욱 안전하고 쾌적하게 이용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.

Buk-gu Mayor Bae Gwang-sik stated, "This was a vital investment to protect the lives and safety of residents even in disaster situations. I anticipate that residents will be able to use the Dong Administrative Welfare Center and the Buk-gu Office main building even more safely and comfortably in the future."
