최민호 세종시장, 충청광역연합 제2대 연합장 선출

세종특별자치시 최민호 시장이 충청권 4개 시·도를 아우르는 협력기구인 충청광역연합 제2대 연합장으로 선출됐다.

세종시는 16일 열린 제7회 충청광역연합의회 정례회 제1차 본회의에서 최 시장이 차기 연합장으로 확정됐다고 밝혔다. 이번 선출로 최 시장은 김영환 충북도지사(초대 연합장)의 뒤를 이어 2025년 12월 31일부터 2026년 6월 30일까지 연합을 이끌게 된다.

충청광역연합은 2024년 12월 전국 최초로 출범한 특별지방자치단체로, 대전·세종·충북·충남 등 4개 시·도의 공동 현안을 협의하고 광역 행정의 효율성을 높이기 위해 만들어졌다. 현재 사무처에는 약 60명이 근무하고 있으며, 연합의회는 각 시·도에서 4명씩 총 16명의 의원으로 구성돼 있다.

최민호 시장은 “충청광역연합은 국가균형발전의 새로운 축을 세우겠다는 의지의 산물”이라며 “충청권이 가진 행정·산업·인재 역량을 결집해 대한민국 발전의 중추로 성장시키겠다”고 강조했다.

그는 앞으로의 주요 추진 방향으로 광역연합의 재정기반 확충 ,중앙정부 권한의 단계적 이양 ,초광역협력사업의 실행력 강화 등을 제시했다. 특히 정부가 추진 중인 ‘5극 3특 국가균형발전 전략’ 과도 발맞춰 충청권의 연계 발전 모델을 구체화하겠다는 구상이다.

세종시는 이번 연합장 선출을 계기로 충청권 4개 시·도의 협력 체계를 한층 강화하고, 실질적인 지역균형발전의 전기를 마련하는 데 행정력을 집중한다는 방침이다.
