영덕군, ‘축산 블루시티 조성사업’ 준공…북부권 핵심 해안 관광거점 도약

【브레이크뉴스 영덕】박영재 기자=영덕군이 2020년부터 2025년까지 축산면 일원에서 추진해 온 ‘축산 블루시티 조성사업’을 성공적으로 준공했다고 밝혔다.

축산 블루시티 조성사업은 영덕군이 지난 2020년 국토교통부 주관 해안권 발전 선도 공모사업에 선정되면서 본격화됐다. 군은 축산항 주변의 문화·관광 기능을 강화하고 정주 여건을 개선하기 위해 단계적인 공간 정비 사업을 추진해 왔다.

총사업비 192억5천만 원이 투입된 이번 사업은 약 5년에 걸쳐 △죽도산 전망대 리모델링 △도시계획도로 정비 △데크로드 설치 △블루빌리지 조성 △세종동진누리공원·미리내광장 조성 △횃불동산 등산로 정비 등 관광객 이용 편의 향상과 주민 생활환경 개선을 아우르는 종합적인 도시·관광 인프라 구축에 중점을 두고 진행됐다.

영덕군은 이번 사업을 통해 축산면 일대의 경관을 대폭 개선하는 한편, 축산항을 영덕군 북부권의 핵심 해안 관광거점으로 육성할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

특히 새롭게 단장한 죽도산 전망대는 동해안과 축산항 일대를 360도로 조망할 수 있는 대표 명소로, 1층과 2층 야외 광장을 증축하고 시설 전반을 재정비해 접근성과 활용도를 크게 높였다. 총 7층 규모의 전망대 가운데 5층 실내 전망 공간에서는 바다와 항만을 파노라마로 감상할 수 있도록 조성돼 방문객 만족도가 높아질 것으로 전망된다.

이와 함께 휴식 공간과 사진 촬영 등 체류형 관광 기능이 강화되면서, 축산항 일대는 블루로드 트레킹 코스와 공원·광장·전망대가 유기적으로 연계된 관광 중심지로 부상할 것으로 기대된다.

영덕군 관계자는 “축산 블루시티 조성사업 준공으로 관광 인프라와 도시환경이 함께 개선되며 지역 경쟁력이 한층 강화됐다”며 “앞으로도 축산면의 자연환경과 공간적 특성을 살린 관광 콘텐츠를 지속적으로 확충해 지역 경제 활성화로 이어질 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

Yeongdeok County announced the successful completion of the 'Chuksan Blue City Development Project,' which was implemented in the Chuksan-myeon area from 2020 to 2025.

The Chuksan Blue City Development Project was launched in earnest in 2020 when Yeongdeok County was selected for a coastal development pilot project hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The county has been implementing a phased spatial development project to strengthen the cultural and tourism functions around Chuksan Port and improve living conditions.

With a total project cost of KRW 19.25 billion, the project, which took approximately five years, focused on building comprehensive urban and tourism infrastructure that enhances tourist convenience and improves the living environment of residents. This included remodeling the Jukdosan Observatory, improving urban planning roads, installing deck roads, creating a Blue Village, developing Sejong Dongjin Nuri Park and Mirinae Plaza, and improving the Torch Hill hiking trail.

Yeongdeok County expects this project to significantly improve the landscape of the Chuksan-myeon area and foster Chuksan Port as a key coastal tourism hub in the northern part of Yeongdeok County.

In particular, the newly renovated Jukdosan Observatory, a landmark offering 360-degree views of the East Sea and Chuksan Port, has been significantly improved through expansion of outdoor plazas on the first and second floors and overall reorganization of the facility, significantly enhancing accessibility and usability. The indoor observation space on the fifth floor of the seven-story observatory offers panoramic views of the ocean and port, which is expected to enhance visitor satisfaction.

Furthermore, with the strengthening of residential tourism features, such as rest areas and photo opportunities, the Chuksan Port area is expected to emerge as a tourism hub, organically linking the Blue Road trekking course with the park, plaza, and observatory.

A Yeongdeok County official said, “With the completion of the Livestock Blue City development project, both tourism infrastructure and the urban environment have improved, further strengthening regional competitiveness.” He added, “We will continue to expand tourism content that takes advantage of the natural environment and spatial characteristics of the Livestock Township to revitalize the local economy.”
