한국수력원자력, ‘2025 공공부문 AX 혁신대상’ 대상 수상

‘2025 공공부문 AX 혁신대상’은 연세대학교와 한국정책학회가 공동 주관해 공공기관의 인공지능 대전환(AX) 우수사례를 발굴하고, 공공부문 전반의 디지털 혁신 확산을 촉진하기 위해 제정한 상이다.

이번 시상에서 한수원은 체계적인 AX 정책 수립 과정과 창의적인 혁신 전략, 이를 뒷받침하는 실행 체계를 구축해 실질적인 성과를 창출한 점에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

한수원은 전사 업무 효율성 제고와 안전한 원전 운영, 수출 경쟁력 강화를 목표로 AI 대전환을 추진하고 있다. 특히 원전 특화형 초거대 생성형 AI를 사내에 구축해 자체 인프라와 데이터 역량을 기반으로 한 소버린 AI의 대표 사례로 인정받고 있다. 이와 함께 건설, 발전운영, 엔지니어링, 원전 안전, 수력, 신재생에너지 등 전 사업 영역에 AI 기술을 적용하며 AX 확산에 나서고 있다.

전대욱 한수원 사장 직무대행은 “이번 수상은 그동안 추진해 온 AI 기반 업무 혁신 노력이 대외적으로 인정받은 결과”라며 “앞으로도 전사적 참여를 바탕으로 보다 실질적이고 활용도 높은 AI 시스템을 구축하고, 지속적인 품질 개선과 AI 전환을 통해 발전소의 안전성과 효율성을 동시에 높여 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Wins Grand Prize at the 2025 Public Sector AX Innovation Awards

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) won the grand prize, the highest honor, at the 2025 Public Sector AX Innovation Awards Ceremony held at Yonsei University on the 17th for its "Realizing an AI-Based Super-Gap Nuclear Power Company."

The 2025 Public Sector AX Innovation Awards, jointly hosted by Yonsei University and the Korean Policy Studies Association, was established to identify best practices in AI transformation (AX) in public institutions and promote the spread of digital innovation across the public sector.

KHNP received high praise for its systematic AX policy development process, creative innovation strategies, and the implementation system that supports them, resulting in tangible results.

KHNP is pursuing an AI transformation aimed at improving company-wide work efficiency, operating safe nuclear power plants, and enhancing export competitiveness. In particular, KHNP has established a large-scale generative AI specialized for nuclear power plants in-house, earning recognition as a prime example of sovereign AI based on its own infrastructure and data capabilities. In addition, KHNP is expanding AX by applying AI technology across all business areas, including construction, power generation operations, engineering, nuclear power plant safety, hydropower, and renewable energy.

Acting President Jeon Dae-wook of KHNP stated, "This award is a recognition of our ongoing efforts to innovate AI-based operations. Going forward, we will build a more practical and usable AI system based on company-wide participation. Through continuous quality improvement and AI transformation, we will simultaneously enhance the safety and efficiency of our power plants."
