POSTECH 선종엽 학생, ‘2025 대한민국 인재상’ 교육부 장관상 수상

【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=POSTECH(포항공과대학교) 전자전기공학과 선종엽 학생이 ‘2025 대한민국 인재상’ 교육부 장관상을 수상하며, 딥테크 스타트업 창업을 통해 국가 미래를 이끌 청년 인재로서의 역량을 입증했다.

‘대한민국 인재상’은 교육부가 주최하고 한국장학재단이 주관하는 정부 대표 청년 포상 제도로, 2001년부터 학업·연구·창업·사회 기여 등 다양한 분야에서 국가 발전에 기여할 우수 청년 인재를 발굴해 시상하고 있다.

선종엽 학생은 POSTECH 재학 중이던 2021년 동기 2명과 함께 딥테크 스타트업 ‘루트라(Lutra)’를 창업했다. 루트라는 블록체인과 인공지능(AI) 기술을 기반으로 사진 위조 문제를 해결하는 기술을 개발하며, 디지털 신뢰 문제 해결이라는 사회적 요구에 부응하는 기술을 선보이고 있다. 특히 선 학생은 2023년 국내 최연소로 미국 CES 혁신상을 수상했으며, 이후 국내외에서 딥테크 기술 라이선싱 성과를 지속적으로 창출하며 기술력과 공공성을 동시에 인정받았다.

이 같은 성과를 바탕으로 선종엽 학생은 K-기술의 세계화를 이끄는 학생 창업의 모범 사례로 평가받았으며, 이번 시상식에서는 수상자 대표로 소감을 발표했다.

선 학생은 수상 소감을 통해 “행복하게 살고 싶다는 개인적인 목표가 행복한 사회를 만들고 싶다는 다짐으로 이어졌고, 창업은 그 다짐을 실천하는 방법이었다”며 “POSTECH에서 배운 연구 습관과 도전 정신을 바탕으로 졸업 이후에도 사회 문제를 기술로 해결하고, 실제 삶에서 체감할 수 있는 제품을 만들어 나가겠다”고 밝혔다.

한편, ‘2025 대한민국 인재상’ 시상식은 지난 24일 정부세종컨벤션센터에서 개최됐다. 이날 행사에서는 ‘고등학생·청소년’ 부문 40명과 ‘대학·청년 일반’ 부문 60명 등 총 100명이 수상의 영예를 안았으며, 국무총리상 1명에게는 상금 300만 원, 교육부 장관상 수상자 99명에게는 각각 200만 원이 수여됐다.

POSTECH Student Jong-yeop Seon Receives Minister of Education Award for '2025 Korea Talent Award'

Seon Jong-yeop, a student in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), has won the Minister of Education Award for the '2025 Korea Talent Award', demonstrating his capabilities as a young talent who will lead the nation's future through the creation of a deep-tech startup.

The 'Korea Talent Award' is the government's representative youth award system, hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the Korea Student Aid Foundation. Since 2001, it has recognized and awarded outstanding young talent who have contributed to national development in various fields, including academics, research, entrepreneurship, and social contribution.

While still attending POSTECH, Seon Jong-yeop founded the deep-tech startup 'Lutra' with two classmates in 2021. Lutra is developing a technology that addresses photo forgery using blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI), addressing the societal need to address digital trust issues. Notably, Seon became the youngest recipient of the CES Innovation Award in Korea in 2023. Since then, he has consistently achieved deep-tech licensing successes both domestically and internationally, earning recognition for both his technological prowess and public service.

Based on these achievements, Seon Jong-yeop has been recognized as a model student entrepreneurship driving the globalization of K-technology. He delivered his acceptance speech as the recipient's representative at the awards ceremony.

In his acceptance speech, Seon stated, "My personal goal of living happily led to my commitment to creating a happier society, and starting a business was a way to put that commitment into practice. Building on the research habits and challenging spirit I learned at POSTECH, I will continue to solve societal problems with technology and create products that can be experienced in real life."

Meanwhile, the "2025 Korea Talent Award" ceremony was held at the Sejong Government Convention Center on the 24th. At the event, a total of 100 people were honored with awards, including 40 people in the ‘High School Students and Youth’ category and 60 people in the ‘University and General Youth’ category. One person received the Prime Minister’s Award and 3 million won in prize money, and 99 people received the Minister of Education Award and 2 million won each.
