브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 해롤드 로저스 쿠팡 대표이사가 개인정보 유출 사태와 관련 “책임 문제는 국회와 규제당국의 판단에 맡기겠다”고 30일 밝혔다.
로저스 대표는 이날 국회에서 열린 ‘쿠팡 침해사고 및 개인정보 유출, 불공정 거래, 노동환경 실태 파악과 재발 방지 대책 마련을 위한 연석 청문회’에 출석해, 3천300만 명이 넘는 고객 정보 유출 책임을 묻는 질의에 대해 “우리는 규제 당국의 규정을 따르고 있다”고 답했다.
추가 보상 가능성과 관련해서는 “이번에 발표한 보상 규모는 약 1조7천억 원에 달하며, 전례 없는 수준이라고 생각한다”며 구체적인 추가 보상안에 대해서는 말을 아꼈다.

특히 이날 청문회에서는 쿠팡이 지난 25일 발표한 조사 결과를 두고, 자체조사인지 정부 지시에 따른 조사인지를 놓고 공방이 벌어졌다.
로저스 대표는 “정부의 지시에 따라 한 달 이상 조사를 진행했다”며 “국정원이 공개적으로 함께 소통했고, 포렌식 복사본을 만들어 전달했다”고 말했다. 또한 정보 유출자와의 접촉과 관련해 “정부 지시에 따라 중국에서 해당 인물을 만났다”고 설명했다.
그러나 배경훈 부총리 겸 과학기술정보통신부 장관은 “범정부 태스크포스 차원에서 쿠팡에 자체 조사를 지시한 적은 없다”며 “국정원은 증거물이 국내 반입 과정에서 훼손·분실되지 않도록 지원한 것”이라고 공조 수사에 대해 선을 그었다.
