Yangju City Completes Construction of Subway Line 7 in Okjeong New Town
Construction Begins in December 2020, Approximately Five Years Later...Follow-Up Work, Including Structures and Systems, Begins in Full Swing...Full Focus on Aiming for Opening by the End of 2027
[Break News Yangju=Kim Wan-young] The entire Dobongsan-Okjeong Metropolitan Railway, under construction with a target opening of 2027, has been completed, leaving only the follow-up work remaining.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 8th that the entire 15.11km section of the Dobongsan-Okjeong Metropolitan Railway has been completed, approximately five years after construction began in December 2020.
The completion is one of the key stages of the Dobongsan-Okjeong Metropolitan Railway project. It will open once electrical and signaling systems, as well as interior and exterior finishing work, are completed.
The province began construction of Section 1 in February of last year and completed Section 3 in April. However, Section 2, the Uijeongbu section (Songsan-dong to Jageum-dong), faced complex challenges in construction and project management due to multiple factors, including: additional reinforcement required due to poor rock quality; construction constraints due to the KEPCO power line; and excavation and drainage management issues near Buyongcheon Stream.
The Dobongsan-Okjeong Metropolitan Railway is an extension of Subway Line 7. The project, costing 774.7 billion won, is targeted for opening by the end of 2027.
Kim Jong-an expressed his outrage, saying, "Having fought fiercely to secure Line 7, I feel differently. The completion date has been postponed three times, and the current official notice states that it will be completed in 2026. Furthermore, Lee Young-joo, a provincial council member from Yangju, expressed his outrage, stating that the Gyeonggi Provincial Administrative Superintendent's contract for the electric trains is set for July 2028. This is a disregard for the citizens of Yangju."
Meanwhile, the opening of Line 7 is expected to bring about groundbreaking changes, including improved transportation conditions in the northern Gyeonggi region, reduced travel times, and improved accessibility to public transportation. Choo Dae-woon, Director of the Gyeonggi Provincial Railway, Port, and Logistics Bureau, stated, "We will prioritize safety and quality control in the remaining construction phases, and complete the project without a hitch through stage-by-stage on-site inspections."
