【브레이크뉴스 경주】박영재 기자=육군 제50보병사단 경주대대가 9일, 6·25전쟁 참전용사 故 양귀상 이병의 유가족에게 화랑무공훈장과 훈장증을 전달했다. 전쟁의 혼란 속에서 미처 전해지지 못했던 훈장이 76년 만에 가족 품으로 돌아갔다.

故 양귀상 이병은 6·25전쟁 당시 육군원호대 소속으로 참전해 전공을 세웠으며, 그 공로를 인정받아 화랑무공훈장 2회 서훈 대상자로 선정됐다. 그러나 당시 전장의 긴박한 상황으로 인해 실물 훈장과 증서를 받지 못했다.

군은 전시 여건 등으로 훈장을 전달받지 못한 참전용사와 유가족을 찾아 무공훈장을 전수하는 사업을 지속적으로 추진하고 있으며, 이번 전수도 그 일환으로 진행됐다.

박상환 경주대대장(중령)은 “국가를 위해 헌신하신 유공자의 명예를 되찾아드릴 수 있어 매우 뜻깊다”며 “참전 선배 전우들의 군인정신을 계승해 확고한 대비태세를 유지하고, 그 희생을 끝까지 기억하는 부대가 되겠다”고 말했다.

한편 육군 50사단은 6·25전쟁 발발 76주년을 맞아 대구·경북 지역 지자체와 협력해 미수훈자와 유가족을 발굴하는 ‘무공훈장 찾아주기 캠페인’을 적극 전개하고 있다. 사단은 앞으로도 지역사회와 연계해 숨은 참전 유공자를 찾아 예우를 이어갈 계획이다.

The division plans to continue working with the local community to identify and honor these undiscovered veterans.
